:
lf you?ve been waiting for an Alpine head unit that you can control just like your iPod, this is it. Menus that are navigable exactly like the iPod. All search options just like the iPod, ability to view album art as you would on the iPod and fast song selection as quick as the iPod.

Testimonials
Average Buyer Rating: out of 5 stars

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Extremely pleased with this head unit ...
After about a month of use, I am about as happy with this as I possibly could be. The iPod interaction is second to none, it is easy to navigate and works well. The pictures of the screen you see don't do it justice - it is bright, sharp, and crystal clear. The cool retro-looking flip clock has been an unexpected favorite for friends riding with me.

Our fallback position for when we dont have the iPod in the car is a 4 gig Kingston DataTraveller (USB key) that we've loaded up with more music than we ever had in the car at any one point.

I have three little annoyances with it, none of which would change my opinion of it, but in the interest of an accurate review, I'll include them here:
* The audio level for iPod is significantly higher than other souces (aux in, fm, etc)
* You cannot switch to clock mode while using Aux in.
* The enter button to select things while navigating the iPod is counter-intuitive. Theres a big button in the middle that does not work for select, instead you have to use a small enter button to the left of the scroll wheel. Small disappointment, we've gotten used to it, and it is no longer an issue.

Overall, I'd give this unit a "Highly Recommend" to anyone who might be considering it. If you consistently use an iPod in your car, and are willing to either give up CDs or buy a separate changer, this unit or its 2008 big brother (iDA-X100) would be the hands down favorites.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - OUTSTANDING RECEIVER!!!
I just received this receiver and had it installed today. I'm so impressed. The navigation is very smooth, and easy to control. If you use your iPod exclusively then this is the deck for you. It also accepts USB sticks to play songs off of which is a nice feature.

I haven't hooked up the bluetooth (I may at the end of the month) or HD radio (I have well over 13,000 songs on my IPod so I think I can do without the HD radio for now) but I'm satisfied.

I'm sure you will be satisfied too.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great sound, easy to use ...
This unit was for my wife's car that the factory cd changer had failed. It is used for radio and ipod only. Note that this unit does not have a cd player. We put an 80 gig ipod classic in the glove box and there it stays. The big screen and easy controls make it very simple to select and play songs, albums, artists, etc. It sounds so much better than the factory stereo did playing cd's, very good response.
Recommended.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - Great idea but not so fast....
Yeah, this should have been a great product. And it mostly works... 85% maybe. But you'd expect more from Alpine wouldn't you. Specifics - no matter what you do, no matter how many times you change it, the system will set to "repeat all". You can change the settings on your ipod and on your deck and the next time you use it, it'll default back to "repeat all". Why??? Second, the text is too big - you can't read titles. And you can't change the text size, no matter what they tell you. This just should have been tested more and should have been a better product.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * no other unit HU out there does what this does for the price ...
Pros:
Overall graphics incredible.
Ipod works flawlessly showing album art.
Sirius Satellite operation incredible

Cons:
the remote sinks.

In Between:
Couldnt get Bluetooth to work with my HTC 8525 initially. Always said "Updating..." and couldnt see my phonebook but could see who was calling when calls came in. Got Jetware Mobile for my phone and now it all works.

i dont use it with a hard drive so i cant speak to that functionality.

i am a heavy satellite user and i can search by artist or song what is playing but clicking the big knob down. incredible! i do not need to search the 100's of satellite channels manually for what i want ot hear. you can set up alerts to tell you what your favorite team is playing and it gives score updates if you listen to another channel. it also can "record" a satellite signal like a tivo. it shows all info on what is playing and the text is beautiful and readable.

i am a heavy ipod user and my 5th gen 80 GB ipod works great showing album art as advertised. i can search my ipod by artist or song. i have over 300 albums and can search around and play what i want just fine. no, its not an ipod so the interface is different but i was able to get around on the HU UI ok. I am a IT chick tech geek so bad UI's are a pet peeve.

i am not a sound geek so i know this isnt something i can review as a pro. all i know is that when i turn up the sound the bass isnt distorted and there are quite a few EQ presets for me to choose from.

the remote has no bluetooth or ipod buttons. not all buttons are lit for night use.

even with a lame remote i cant take down my 5 star rating.

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

While compact and convenient, Panasonic's SD-based SDR-S150 camcorder doesn't make the quality cut.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon
