* should have chosen the nano ...
I HATE this iPod! I am frustrated beyond belief. I bought the 16g Touch in april 08 for $369, including the "upgraded software", I see that now it is under $300. I was never able to get the wifi to work, could hardly keep a charge on the battery, then put it down for several months because I was too busy to mess with it or sit down and read the manual. This week I had some time off from work and thought I would get my Touch set up and going. Dang if the screen is now frozen, "slide to unlock" will not respond and I can't even get the stupid thing to turn off. for about 30 seconds I had audio, but then the song started skipping and the stupid thing froze up again. I thought this was "flash drive", I could understand skipping if it was a hard drive. I do not understand what could be wrong, and I don't want to spend another $100 trying to figure it out. I am ready to put it in a drawer, chalk it up to stupidly wanting the latest and greatest from apple, and going back to my little shuffle until I can muster up the courage to purchase another iPod and get the Nano.
VERY DISAPPOINTED, to be sure!

Considering Buying
I went into the shiny new very modern seeming Apple Store in my mall and played with the 'toys' there. I was admiring the i-Touch in the store and played around with it. I also asked the stores associates, who were very helpful for some advice on it. It was pretty cool and easy to work. I did notice that the virtual key-pad took some getting used to, as I kept hitting the wrong keys. The associate said you had to aim for the left of the button- that worked! I also noticed a feature from Nike for exercise that seemed cool, but learned you have to buy another piece of hardware ($30) and they said it worked best in Nike shoes($125). Next, I went to Apps and saw that most things were around $7.50 and up to download- yikes! My area doesn't have much Wi-Fi around and we have a wired connection, so I wonder if I can enjoy it out so much. A couple of things that I can see would improve it would be if it flipped 'closed' or had a built in case. Also I know it's a cool touch screen, but I wish it could go into a mode with some sort of pointer device too. Overall... It sounds like a fun gadget and my birthday is coming up... so why not?!

Love it
I've had the iPod Touch for about a month. I just took it with me on a business trip and it was magnificent. I was able to keep in touch with my office via e-mail on the Touch; also the e-mail let me see not only the text messages but also attachments; full web browsing for both the conference material and for things to do after hours; I had downloaded various free games to entertain me; I bookmarked links to my travel info; used it as my music player on the plane. It was both an indispensable business tool and a great toy. The App selection is broad and growing daily.
Shortcomings: Very few. Typing with the touch screen keypad is, of course, not as good as a real keyboard - much slower - but the device does compensate by having a fairly robust correction mode - type anything close to the word you want and it auto-corrects to that word. When actively using Wireless, the battery life isn't great. I'd say less than 3 hours of continuous browsing & e-mail, but that's about what you get with a laptop.
Overall, the iPod replaced my laptop for communication purposes and that made me very happy.
