Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Wonderful History Lesson - SHOULD BE ON DVD ...
Great documentary of the drama of the Apollo Project as told by those who were there. Everyone should see this video, and hopefully they will put it out on DVD soon as my VHS is getting rusty...

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - great introduction for teenagers
I have used this documentary in my physics classes for the past 8 years during our unit on planetary and satellite motion, and they always LOVE it. The "storytelling" presentation really pulls them into the film, and they get so attached to the Mercury Seven that we have to pass around the tissues when Gus dies in the Apollo I fire. It also serves as a springboard into a great historical discussion of that era - one that many students never make it to in class. And, of course, we follow it up with a field trip to the Space and Rocket Center in nearby Huntsville, AL. Now if I could just get this on DVD . . . my tapes are starting to wear out!

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Looking for the DVD ...
Moonshot is an excellent documentary. It is over 3 hours long, and I wish it was longer. I went to amazon today intending to get a DVD of this. I already have a VHS copy.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - For space program buffs
Fantastic history of the space program, narrated by Barry Corbin (voice of the late Deke Slayton), but featuring interviews with the men who were there, including Adm. Alan Shepard, first American in Space. They have some of the most amusing stories about those early missions that you could ever hope to hear. The companion book is also terrific, goes into much more detail than the movie could ever hope to, even across the best part of four hours.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * moon shot ...
This has got to be the best documentary ever made about the space race. It's absolutely nerve racking even though you know what is going to happen. I've watched this film and read this book over and over and everytime i do i find myself biting my nails. Right now i'm looking for the DVD version to add to my collection. I already have the book and vhs movie.
This movie/book really gives you the details of what these heros actually went through, their thoughts and the guts it takes to be an astronaut. These men really have nerves of steel and after reading this book it gives you a real appreciation of what it took not just from these men but the supporting cast! If There was a task that needed to be done that no one thought was possible I'd turn to Gene Krantz and his team, cause if it was humanly possible they would be able to figure it out and accomplish it.
Thanks again to these men for taking us to another level and also for an enjoyable book and video to watch.

Thanks
Nick

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

Though it's expensive, the Sony VAIO VGN-TX670P delivers a great combination of business and entertainment features, long battery life, and unparalleled connectivity in an incredibly ultraportable package.

One of the most unjustly underrated Italian operas receives a production that should help correct that attitude. Andrea Chenier is based on the true story of a poet who was caught up and destroyed by the blind fury of the French Revolution. Giordano's music captures the acrid flavor of that movement, the cynicism of some of its leaders, and Chenier's integrity and tragic fate. This production's value has probably increased since Plácido Domingo, the leading Chenier of his generation, has dropped the role from his repertoire.

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

It would have been better, of course, if this 1984 production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena, or at least its title role, had been filmed 20 years earlier, when Joan Sutherland's voice was in its spectacular prime. But like her Canadian Opera Norma, dating from 1981, this is a better-late-than-never documentation of one of the most remarkable voices of the 20th century.

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
