Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * scan snap...it really is a snap! ...
I rarely if EVER write an evualution of a product since I am quite jaded
about reviews since they are used to try to sell more of the same product to the public.
BUT, I must confess that this scan snap is a PURE JOY to use. I do a lot of bankruptcy work and we are required to do PDF documents as required by
the new bankruptcy law. I have have other scanners but without spending a
ton of money or pledging your first born, I could not afford it so I went
to the court house to scan some required docs. I needed a scanner in a
bad way and I needed a reliable, fast and cheap scanner. I went via
google and found scanner and saw this scan snap and it look just like what I needed. I sent for it (fast shipping) and the set up was easy and
the method to scan was 1-2-3...even a GEICO caveman could do this...without the club! I am not computer literate and hate reading the
technical literature they sent out (I could write better copy for these
electronic gizmos) but the scan snap was easy to read and was a breeze to
do. I had a minor problem and had to call their free technical support since my computer did not want to share its USB with snap. I simply plugged it in another usb port and bingo...not a problem. Tech support was great. I would without ANY RESERVATION buy another snap and recommend it to someone who is on the go or needs a reliable office scanner for daily use and that is fast and produces sharp clear PDF files. You can call me at 419-249-2703 for further discussions if you wish. great product...good price. It takes up almost no space on your desk.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Outstanding product
This product is just outstanding in my opinion. I have used this little gem for about 2 weeks and I have just been blown away by its simplicity of use and quality of results. My initial budget was $200 but I decided based on other reviews to spend a little extra for this scanner. My personal requirements were fairly simple - ability to scan in receipts and simple documents. I have scanned in a little over 100 receipts/documents so far and here is what I see:

1) General scan speed is very nice. I can scan one receipt after another very quickly.

2) Quality of the scan is adjustable but the default setting seems just fine. The PDFs generated seem to be optimized just right between quality and size.

3) Small receipts are hard to scan in straight. The very first one I tried went in at an awkward angle but the software adjusted it to look right. I may just be naive about this feature (maybe lots of other scanning software has this now) but I was totally impressed.

4) The SnapScan software organizes all the files essentially into directories so I'm not locked in to a proprietary format.

5) Moving and renaming the PDFs are very straightforward.

6) The scanner itself is not the smallest but it's still small enough that carrying it around is not too bad. This was not my primary requirement so it's not an issue for me. It seems like it is solidly built but time will tell.

7) I have not tried the searchable PDF feature. This is really not that important for me so I can't say how well this works.

8) The only negative thing I have come across is that the software cannot edit PDFs that were created by other software. I had another PDF document that I wanted to append to one of the receipts I scanned in but could not. PDF format is supposed to be a standard but I understand there are different versions and nuances. This is more of an occasional nuisance than a serious issue.

Overall, I have not used this scanner for very long but everything I have experienced has been very positive, minus the one issue with "external" PDFs. This product is definitely worth the money I paid for. I highly recommend it.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Fabulous scanner with even better software included. ...
I bought one of these and tried it out. Worked so incredibly well I bought one for my other office (to have one on each desk). Worked so well three of my employees/colleagues wanted one. Got them all one. I am a long time believer scanning to save important notes on my computer rather than paper. This simply is the best scanner I've ever used. Easy to use, easy to understand, and the software that comes with it is the best scanning software I have ever seen or used(esp for the purpose of scanning notes and keeping them organized in a filing system). I've been using Scansoft for scanning needs. For scanning notes you intend to file and keep on your computer, this is so much better. In fact, it's so much better for rapidly turning anything into a PDF.

Update: I've been using two of these units now for over a month. They are fantastic and I like the software that comes with them even better than I did at first (and that was a lot). Fantastic equipment. Very usable, friendly, fast, and well thought through.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - This is the best and most reliable scanner we've ever used, and it is tiny !!!!
We have been testing replacement devices for traditional MFD devices since many of our field reps and franchisees don't really need printing or flat bed capabilities, and this Fuji is just absolutely superb.

It takes paper of all thicknesses, it has taken wrinkled, folded and other less than perfect documents that would normally jam up an HP 7000 series ADF, this thing automatically adjusts faded text to make it readable before it OCR's it.

The USB power option is compelling for us and the device scans about 2/3 normal speed when on USB power versus AC in our tests of B&W documents.

We'd rather use this Fuji with an inexpensive HP DeskJet or Lexmark and a $49 CanoScan in case you just absolutely have to have flatbed scanning.

We're sold on Fuji !

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE that little Fujitsu scanner!!!!!!! ...
Feedback from the coworker I purchased this for:

I LOOOOOOVVVVEEEE that little Fujitsu scanner!!!!!!!
It only scans to PDF, I believe - well, that I can tell - but that works out great.
It's got searchable PDF with the ScanSnap software....

So I've been up this morning, playing with the scanner, scanning in all my meeting notes.
Can't wait to shred all the paper. :-)

Thanks again!
Good purchase!!!!

Jen

Stephen Sondheim's Victorian horror thriller Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is generally considered his greatest work, macabre but darkly humorous with a viscerally powerful score that has found a home both on Broadway and in opera houses. George Hearn (who replaced Len Cariou of the original Broadway cast) plays the title character, a wronged man whose lust for revenge drives him to murder (an 18th-century legend who has been traced to a real-life barber), and Angela Lansbury plays his partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, who finds a practical business use for Todd's victims. This combination of horror and humor is echoed in Sondheim's score: brooding menace ("The Ballad of Sweeney Todd," "My Friend"), achingly beautiful ballads ("Johanna," "Not While I'm Around"), clever puns ("A Little Priest"), coloratura arias ("Green Finch and Linnet Bird"), and intricate choral and ensemble numbers.

Continuing a fortuitous tradition of capturing the Sondheim legacy on video recordings, this performance was filmed before a live audience in Los Angeles during the 1982 national tour. Almost 20 years later, Hearn returned to the role opposite Patti LuPone in an acclaimed concert production. But Sweeney Todd is an especially compelling experience in this 1982 version, complete with the clever staging tricks (e.g., the barber's chair) and as close to the original cast as we're likely to see. --David Horiuchi

A guilty, guilty pleasure, perhaps not one a left-wing feminist should be admitting to in public. Female boomers should recall yearly TV reruns of this Rodgers and Hammerstein production, featuring such delights as "Impossible" and "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?" It may appear a bit stark to younger viewers, but part of the charm of this 1964 network TV special, a remake of the live 1957 telecast originally built around Julie Andrews, is its utter simplicity. An extremely young Lesley Ann Warren and Stuart Damon (of General Hospital fame) are joined by Ginger Rogers, Walter Pidgeon, and Celeste Holm. Warren is all sweetness and innocence without a hint of saccharine artificiality, while Damon is a clear-eyed romantic. This very handsome love story is a bit of an oddity, but worth owning just for the memorable score. --Rochelle O'Gorman

John Waters made his bid for PG respectability with this enjoyably trashy comedy about the racial integration of a teen dance show on Baltimore television in the early '60s. Waters, as always, makes a virtue of junk culture and the powerful emotional forces it can represent as kids vie to get on the show. Meanwhile, a parade of former stars (Pia Zadora, Debbie Harry, Sonny Bono) and pseudostars (Divine, Ricki Lake) cross the screen, playing freakish characters absorbed by thoughts of fame. (Waters himself turns up as a weirdo psychiatrist.) This transitional film for Waters is rough going at times and not as interesting or funny as his later features Cry-Baby and Serial Mom, but it's worth a look. --Tom Keogh

Martina McBride has long been a champion of music as social consciousness, particularly for abused women ("Independence Day") and children. On Waking Up Laughing, her ninth album and the follow-up to Timeless, her platinum-selling album of country classics, she advances the theme while expanding it. While two songs explore the issue of unwed mothers (particularly the exquisite "Love Land," which closes the album), and another, "Beautiful Again," touches on child sexual abuse, her overall repertoire embraces the wholeness of family, and of standing strong together in the face of adversity and defeat. Musically, McBride has always proved to be an elegant thorn--her song selection is often inspired (and here, she co-wrote three tunes, including the skyscraping single "Anyway"), but she has tended to use her huge, ride-the-wave soprano full-tilt, without employing the subtle shadings that would make her even more emotionally resonant. On Waking Up Laughing she seems to have worked on the problem, yet in her second foray as solo producer, she still tends to gild the lily instrumentally--inflating string bridges between choruses, for example, or loading the opening country-pop track, "If I Had Your Name," with a Southern-rock guitar break, a listen-to-me fiddle showcase, a Celtic guitar intro, and a close that brings to mind George Harrison's sitar in play-it-backward mode. That said, she makes fine use of what sounds like a black female choir on the uplifting "For These Times," and wisely keeps the haunting break-up ballad "Tryin' to Find a Reason" (with Keith Urban's harmony vocals and guitar solo) lean and affecting. As McBride works to refine her pastiche of creativity, commerciality, and social awareness, she slyly takes more chances than one might think, all the while rallying old fans and making new ones. --Alanna Nash

For right-minded buyers of the reissued Muppet Christmas Carol soundtrack, the odds of disappointment are about as remote as Miss Piggy's chances with Kermit. If you loved the movie, you will love the loopy mayhem of the Muppet Brass Buskers ("Good King Wenceslas"), the cartoonish malice of the black-hearted misanthropes Marley & Marley ("Marley & Marley"), and the hope-swollen harmonies of Tiny Tim and Family ("Bless Us All"), Muppeted here to hilariously humble effect. If, on the other hand, your interest in this disc has more to do with its inclusion in the way-narrow Christmas-record-for-kids category--if the spirit of the season doesn't extend, for you, to the magic of the Muppets--you may want to keep browsing, as it's a soundtrack first (overture, instrumentals, and all) and a Christmas CD second. That's not to suggest you're stuck with an un-fun disc should it land on your holiday stack without a prior screening, though. Miles Goodman's score sweeps and inspires, and certain tracks--"One More Sleep 'til Christmas" and "Fozziwig's Party"--are future classics. (Note to the right-minded: After a misstep on the original release, Martina McBride's version of "When Love is Gone" is back.) -Tammy La Gorce
