Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - * neat little gadget ...
This is a cool gadget. Shows upcomming side streets as you hit them. Screen turns black when it gets dark to show night navigation. How cool is that. It is off with directions though. You'll get there but not always the most direct route. It did have me turning onto a one way street.....from the wrong end. The trip I took today, I knew where I was going but had it map it for fun. It send me a route that would have traken me 20 mins longer and kept redirecting me back to that route when I turned where I was supposed to, untill I passed the last side street I could hit to go the way it wanted me to. Then it rediredted me the way I intened..except for the wrong way on the one way street (a short street, cut off from 2 main rds.) So a few glitches but I like it.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - Garmin 260
Many times when I miss my turn, Garmin is very slow in telling which is the next turn to take. Yesterday, there was a u-turn i had to make but the system didn't tell me whether the u-turn was on the left or right which made it a lot more difficult for me to get to my destination without making the drivers behind me exasperated.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * Great, simple to use. ...
This Garmin Nuvi is a great little unit. Here are my pluses and minuses:

+ size
+ battery life (you don't have to have it plugged in all the time!)
+ intuitive interface (you won't get lost in the menus)
+ bright, clear, display
+ good "text to speech" (calling of street names)

- no ability to specify a route or have more than one way-point (but at this price, you've got to give up something!)
- dimming is based on time of day, not ambient light - so for example it doesn't dim in a tunnel
- no "TURN NOW" ding like the Magellan

All in all, I just love this unit and don't think you can get a better, easier-to-use unit for the money. I highly recommend it.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Garmin nuvi
We have been very pleased with the quality of this product. It is easy to use and has been quite accurate and helpful. We would recommend it.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * Love this Garmin! ...
I have really enjoyed the 260. Opened the box, plugged her in, off we went. Text to speech is a must. She can be a little slow announcing the upcoming turns however. Highly recommend!

The HP Compaq tc4400 convertible tablet offers decent performance and battery life, though we recommend adding more RAM.

Small and light enough for a shirt pocket, Samsung's Helix YX-M1 is a one-stop audio entertainment center with an XM radio, a digital music player, and room for 50 hours of tunes, but it comes up short on battery life.

Joshua Logan's 1967 film of the hit Broadway musical about the love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Sir Lancelot (Franco Nero) is strong on star emphasis and weak on such fundamentals as story and sets. Except for a handful of solidly dramatic scenes--such as Guenevere grieving, late in the film, for the ruination she and Lancelot have caused--there's not a lot to get excited about. (The story's theme of a lost, great society, however, certainly struck a chord in the 1960s.) The Lerner-Loewe songs ("If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot") pretty much sell themselves, even if they are, at best, only proficiently performed in this movie. --Tom Keogh

"The book was better" has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. In the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Into this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric chair, masterfully and grippingly staged) on the mile . As with King's book, Darabont takes plenty of time to show us Edgecomb's world before delving into John Coffey's mystery. With Darabont's superior storytelling abilities, his touch for perfect casting, and a leisurely 188-minute running time, his movie brings to life nearly every character and scene from the novel. Darabont even improves the novel's two endings, creating a more emotionally satisfying experience. The running time may try patience, but those who want a story, as opposed to quick-fix entertainment, will be rewarded by this finely tailored tale. --Doug Thomas

On the DVD

Listen to our interview with Frank Darabont.
Anyone who has seen this Oscar-nominated film knows Frank Darabont likes to t-a-k-e h-i-s t-i-m-e. He certainly does the same in filling all three hours of his commentary track which he recorded over several sessions. Darabont has studied other DVDs and purposely does not repeat tidbits covered in the excellent new 90-minute documentary on author Stephen King and the making of the film. Other solid segments are two deleted scenes, a never-used teaser trailer, and Michael Duncan Clarke's screen test. The highlight is two remarkable tests of Tom Hanks in old-age makeup. Both are very credible, but it was decided to use another actor. The outcome is a DVD that puts the "special" back into the special edition. --Doug Thomas

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring. --James McGrath
