The 4.3-inch backlit widescreen touchscreen on the nüvi 260W gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

Garmin better than Google maps
Before buying the Garmin 260 I printed maps on Google or MapQuest and often was directed into places / onto streets that didn't exist. At that point you have a piece of paper with no bearing on where you are or how to get to your destination. Although no absolutly %100 perfect, the Garmin has been very accurate, only failing me 2 or 3 times in the first month when routing me on small rural gravel roads or on roads that were proposed as part of a subdivision but never put in. In both of those cases Google Maps and MapQuest had the same flawed data but with the Garmin despite the flaw at least i still knew where i was and could easily let it recalculate. In all other cases, the vast majority, the Garmin was more accurate or at least as accurate as a printed map. Some reviewers have mentioned trouble aquiring satelites but mine has been perfect. Many of the coolest features were suprises - the ETA function is really accurate and helpful as is the search for restaurants, gas stations, ATM feature. Of course many newer points of interest are not listed but helpful most of the time. Lastly, with a Google map print out you drive along looking for xyz street but the signs are often small and by the time you are close enough to the intersection to see the street name you have missed it. With the Garmin you get in the turn lane long before seeing the street name sign and stay on course. Are there better GPS units? maybe, but this one does more than i expected better than i expected - very happy with this unit, thanks Garmin :)

* Garmin nuvi 260w ...
When you change locations and Garmin is unaware of this, i.e. off during travel - it takes up to 5 minutes for it to discern its new location by locating a satellite. Whilst typing, do not always expect a tone to indicate you have entered a letter when typing an address, sometimes you will get a verification tone and sometimes you wont (if you type quickly you wont for subsequent letters). Small distances are usually inaccurate; e.g. Garmin will tell you 90 meters when in fact you have only 8 meters to go. Sometimes you are directed toward imaginary paths which have never existed.

Completely Happy I Bought this GPS
There is a lot of information out there on buying a GPS unit. I went through it all, learning about the bells and whistles, which one people liked better, blah-blah-blah. I ended up with readers burnout and decided to go back to basics: "...which unit would get me to where I'm going OR make sure I know where I am". That was my base criteria. The Garmin nuvi 260W fits the bill perfectly. My reasons for buying this one were it does all the basic stuff I need/want (where am I?) and it adds a wider screen, I can unclip it for portable use, and even though I don't/likely won't use it, it comes with a card reader suporting a few of those bells and whistles people seem to think are important. I also bought that Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount (highly recommended to all!!) so I could easily remove the GPS for use in another car OR just hide the unit when I'm not in the car (thieves are looking).
Overall I am extremely pleased with my purchase. If I were to buy a second one, knowing what I know now, I would buy another 260W and stay away from those higher priced units. This one is perfect for me and almost everybody I know. Hope this helps :)
