Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - * Garmin nuvi 270 ...
I would recommend Garmin nuvi 270 if you often travel to Europe and not care much about text to speech which this product does not support.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Garmin Nuvi 270
Bought the Garmin Nuvi 270 2 weeks ago on . Incredibly fast shipping. I paid $181.99 plus $12.00 shipping. Item works like a charm. Very easy to understand and operate. I've tried Magellan and Tom Tom GPS systems and they just were too complicated. The Garmin 270 at the current price of $174.99 is a great deal and the bonus maps of Canada and Western Europe make this purchase even better. This Garmin 270 was my first purchase at Amazon and it was a very positive experience. I

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Nuvi 270 Doesn't Deliver in Small Town Italy ...
Garmin nüvi 270 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator with US, Canada & European Maps

Took the Nuvi 270 to small towns in Italy. In the mountains it frequently couldn't find the satellite for a long while. Then when we either went around mountains or drove in streets in the old villages it would give directions and then say "recalculating" and "make a U turn" and then send us another direction or back to the original direction. In taking the autostrada to Amalfi it took us off of the main road that we were on and put us on a parallel road that took longer and made no sense to change. Addresses were hard to program in. We couldn't find a way to just program the gps to take us to a city center. Did find that larger cities seemed to do better, but didn't really trust it after all of the mistakes.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - Will save your marriage
I bought the 270 because my brother finally took his garmin handheld unit back. The 270 is intuitive, speedy, has all the features you care about (unless you're a freak and sport a bluetooth headset at all times) and has really come down in price. I was amazed by how intuitive its controls are and the abundance of points of interest. I felt like having pagliacci pizza, went to POI's, food, spell, typed in pagl and hit enter. 3 seconds later, I was on my way. Despite the price being 25 dollars cheaper on amazon, I bought mine at costco.com so if the thing dies, I can return it.

My only disappointment with this is the dashboard disk the unit came with. It wouldn't stick to the dashboard at all. However, the windshield suction cup works like a champ.

Buy this unit and save your marriage :)

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Awesome Unit! ...
I bought this for a trip to Italy where I would be driving through Tuscany. What a great purchase! "Lisa" saved my butt more than once on roads that I never would have been able to navagate without "her" - from main highways to local roads to dirt paths! I was very happy with the performance and the "safety camera zone" warnings (europe's version of the unmanned speed trap) even in small towns. The size was a real plus as it was very transportable - even in a shirt pocket.

There are a couple of limitations - probably typical of ANY GPS. It doesn't work really well in some of the old towns when walking around - I think not enough "sky" access to find the satellites. Also tracking you as you walk isn't really good - perhaps you aren't walking fast enough to match the "update " rate on the screen - perhaps there is a set-up parameter that I dodn't have set properly (it IS a new unit to me). Sometimes "Lisa" attempted to route us down closed off "walking streets" - and once down a one way street in the university section of Bologna.

Overall, really, really minor points in a very impressive overall performance.

The HP Compaq tc4400 convertible tablet offers decent performance and battery life, though we recommend adding more RAM.

Small and light enough for a shirt pocket, Samsung's Helix YX-M1 is a one-stop audio entertainment center with an XM radio, a digital music player, and room for 50 hours of tunes, but it comes up short on battery life.

One of the most unjustly underrated Italian operas receives a production that should help correct that attitude. Andrea Chenier is based on the true story of a poet who was caught up and destroyed by the blind fury of the French Revolution. Giordano's music captures the acrid flavor of that movement, the cynicism of some of its leaders, and Chenier's integrity and tragic fate. This production's value has probably increased since Plácido Domingo, the leading Chenier of his generation, has dropped the role from his repertoire.

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

It would have been better, of course, if this 1984 production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena, or at least its title role, had been filmed 20 years earlier, when Joan Sutherland's voice was in its spectacular prime. But like her Canadian Opera Norma, dating from 1981, this is a better-late-than-never documentation of one of the most remarkable voices of the 20th century.

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
