The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push.

I am a gadget guy and have had a lot of fun with this Nuvi 660. It is my second GPS navigator and it is amazing how the technology has advanced and the price has gone down.

It has not failed me during a trip through northern Wisconsin and back into Michigan. One time it recalculated because I did not go its chosen route and would have put me on a gravel road becuse it was the shortest.
I don't consider that a fault because I decided not to follow orders. :-)

What do I like: 1. the screen is as big as my earlier one, but it is overall much small and does not get in the way. 2. I can even tone it down so it could be used at night. 3. It finds the satellites in 1-3 minutes where my old one took up to 15 minutes. 4. It came with the leather case, a great windshield suction cup, and the ac adapter. 5. The manual was on disk and I printed it out, but the navigation part is so intuitive it was a waste of paper. 6. The graphics are great. 7. My wife even likes it because the voice commands are from a male voice and she did not like to be given orders by a woman - the only choice with the earlier GPS. 7. She forgot where Steak and Shake was located in a town 60 miles away. Went to the town, pressed food, spelled Steak, and there was a map to get to it.

Do I like the Nuvi 660? You bet. Am I having fun? You bet. Does it help in unknown territory? You bet.

I would definitely recommend the Garmin 660 to anyone who wants the best GPS available for a fair price.

Arround the same time I bought the Garmin, one of my friends bought a Tom-Tom 720 and another friend bought a Magellan.

Few outings we all got to use each other's GPSs. On more than one occasion, I heard from both my friends that they wish they'd bought the Garmin instead.

The only CON to this GPS is that the suction mount keeps falling off... but this happens with every GPS in the market.

When a product pays for itself with it's first use, I believe a few words is worth the effort. The second day after receiving the Nuvi 660, I had to make a trip from Central NY to eastern Mass. I knew this route from 35 years of visiting relatives, but thought it would be my chance to get familiar with the operation. Upon returning, I was making my usually good time into Providence RI. I glanced at the GPS arrival time and it kept creeping up at an alaming rate. Looking closer (I was not familiar with the operation yet), I noticed an icon flashing on the screen. I touched it and was warned of a 25 minute delay up ahead. It gave me the option to avoid, and like magic, I had the directions through downtown Providence that allowed me to avoid the mess. I think I high-fived my wife (I hate traffic delays)... Bottom line, the traffic options (when available) are worth their weight in gold.
