Advanced Wireless and GPS Technology At the heart of the StreetPilot c550 is a high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF that provides outstanding acquisition times and the ability to maintain a strong signal under heavy foliage and near city skyscrapers. This means you'll always know precisely where you are. Meanwhile, an automotive-grade, sunlight-readable, 2.8 x 2.1-inches (WxH) anti-glare TFT LCD touch-screen display offers easy readability. With dimensions of 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.2-inches (WxHxD), and at about nine ounces in weight, the StreetPilot c550 features a streamlined design that will fit easily on any dashboard with the included vehicle suction mount. The unit also features Garmin Lock -- an advanced anti-theft feature that disables the unit from performing any functions until you type in a specific four-digit PlN or take the unit to a predetermined location.
The StreetPilot c550 also includes Bluetooth technology integrated with a microphone and dual speakers that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls on a compatible Bluetooth wireless phone. You can view incoming calls on your c550, and simply tap the screen to answer. Just speak into the built-in microphone while staying focused on your driving. ln addition, you can retrieve and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or the phone's call history log. You can also make calls from the more than six million points of interest database -- which includes hotels, restaurants, stores, and much more.
Another feature unique to the c550 is its integrated traffic capabilities. The c550 includes the GTM 20, an integrated FM TMC traffic receiver with a free three-month trial subscription (for U.S. customers only). The GTM 20 notifies you of traffic conditions, construction and weather delays, and automatically suggests alternative routes. The navigator also comes with preloaded maps of North America and includes automatic routing, 2D or 3D map perspective, and turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names -- making navigation as easy as it gets. An included MP3 player lets you enjoy music from your digital collection while you drive, and an included SD memory card expansion slot means that you can load optional software, such as language and travel guides -- making travel even easier and more entertaining than ever.

* Indispensible ...
This GPS does exactly what it is supposed to do... it shows you where you are and how to get to where you're going. It is very easy to use even for somebody who has never used a GPS before. Very intuitive interface, clear bright screen, durable, well made, and very good tech support if you need it. I am a huge fan. If you don't have a GPS already, you cannot beat this unit.

very pleased
I love my Garmin Streetpilot. It has everything that you need to mount it to the windshield and plug it into the lighter in your car, you do not need the extra stuff they try to sell you. Overnight means three day. I payed overnight and got it three days later.

* the best, ever ...
I purchased the Garmin Streetpilot c550 GPS 3 weeks ago. I gotta say that it was a great investment. Not only does it get me there, but I have many different voices to choose. I can have my voice be either male or female and come from different countries such as England or Austrailia. what a treat to be told to turn on to Smith Street and the voice be Austrailian. We also have a built in MP3 player that holds almost 1 gig of music not to mention the SD expansion slot. My bluetooth phone works right through the unit for hands free calling and listening. My favorite extra is the fact that I was heading into a large traffic slow down and my c550 let me know this well in advance and rerouted me a different way to avoid the problem. Hats off to Garmin for making such a quality product

Love it !
I ordered this machine after reading other consumer reviews as well as professional reviews. I have not been dissappointed. What I like best is the ease of operation. I had the unit hooked up and giving directions five minutes after I opened the box. I have used all of the functions in the past few weeks and have yet to read the directions. Very easy to figure out. My daughter gets a kick out of the different voices that are pre-programmed in. One week it will be a female from Austrailia and the next week an american male voice. In areas I am familiar with it does not always agree with me on which way is th shortest, but it always gets me to where I want to go. While traveling in unfamiliar areas, this machine is a life saver. The unit retails for around $500.00 but I got mine on Amazon for loess than $200.00 and it is worth every penny.
Tahnk you!

* Great Unit! ...
"UPDATE" As of 08-15-08 unit is still working great! I did purchase a new phone from Verizon, the Adventure V750. Trying to pair the bluetooth was a nightmare. After several attempts (about 20 minutes) the phone and C550 finally connected. After the setup the bluetooth works great, I guess this new phone has issues. Old phone connected fine, as stated in my original post. There are a few places that the c550 could not find. I was searching for a local store and it was not listed, even though I was in the parking lot of the store I was hunting. I'm sure this is human error while programing the Garmin maps. No matter what unit you have, none are perfect. Still a great unit and I purchased 3 more for Christmas.
I purchased two of these and they are wonderful. They will work straight out the box with little set up time. I registered the units with no problems on 7-30-08. Garmin still has support for these units. When I registered, it updated the firmware then said I need to update my map. They will give you a free update to download or you can order the map on a cd for shipping charges. I chose to download using a broadband connection, it took over an hour. I did have one problem after the download when trying to install the map. I called support (took about 30 minutes to reach a live tech). They were very helpful and talked me through my problem. I was told if I had any other issues to email him and he would call me back, so I would not need to hold like before. Be prepared to wait for the download and installation, as for it will take over 2 hours to complete. I had no trouble when setting up my cell. It detected the phone in a matter of seconds. I have Verizon service. I road tested this unit on 7-31-08 from work to home. The results were great! Only thing I noticed was when entering a sharp curve it said to make a turn. This could come in handy if traveling an unknown road, for warning of a sharp turn. I do recommend this unit and will purchase some as Christmas gifts. I do recommend ordering a screen protector or a stylus so no damage or scratching will occur.
