Advanced Wireless and GPS Technology
At the heart of the StreetPilot c550 is a high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF that provides outstanding acquisition times and the ability to maintain a strong signal under heavy foliage and near city skyscrapers. This means you'll always know precisely where you are. Meanwhile, an automotive-grade, sunlight-readable, 2.8 x 2.1-inches (WxH) anti-glare TFT LCD touch-screen display offers easy readability. With dimensions of 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.2-inches (WxHxD), and at about nine ounces in weight, the StreetPilot c550 features a streamlined design that will fit easily on any dashboard with the included vehicle suction mount. The unit also features Garmin Lock -- an advanced anti-theft feature that disables the unit from performing any functions until you type in a specific four-digit PlN or take the unit to a predetermined location.

The StreetPilot c550 also includes Bluetooth technology integrated with a microphone and dual speakers that lets you make hands-free mobile phone calls on a compatible Bluetooth wireless phone. You can view incoming calls on your c550, and simply tap the screen to answer. Just speak into the built-in microphone while staying focused on your driving. ln addition, you can retrieve and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or the phone's call history log. You can also make calls from the more than six million points of interest database -- which includes hotels, restaurants, stores, and much more.

Another feature unique to the c550 is its integrated traffic capabilities. The c550 includes the GTM 20, an integrated FM TMC traffic receiver with a free three-month trial subscription (for U.S. customers only). The GTM 20 notifies you of traffic conditions, construction and weather delays, and automatically suggests alternative routes. The navigator also comes with preloaded maps of North America and includes automatic routing, 2D or 3D map perspective, and turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names -- making navigation as easy as it gets. An included MP3 player lets you enjoy music from your digital collection while you drive, and an included SD memory card expansion slot means that you can load optional software, such as language and travel guides -- making travel even easier and more entertaining than ever.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Battery Died ...
had this thing exactly one year then the battery died. So, now it MUST always be connected by its power cable. it is a royal pain that it must always be plugged into the power outlet. No more Garmins for me . I will try another brand next time. Also, The route they send you is not necessarily the shortest or the fastest. have tried it for trips in my own city and i have to laugh at some of the routes they want to take me.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Impressed!
I rented this GPS through AVIS while away visiting family. Garmin puts Avis only "where 2" brand on it.. but the software and the back of the GPS call it a c550. I put 750 miles on in 3 days and used this GPS the entire time.

My first GPS was an old garmin streetpilot III. They have fixed everything wrong with the old one. There was no "lag" as I navigated between screens. Touchscreen worked better than the one on my iphone. Maps were accurate and up to date... even in areas that I know had recent construction.

GPS took less than 10 seconds to find sattellite... My older GPS units sometimes took 20+ minutes.

The traffic feature was obviously turned on. It warned me of "heavy/slow traffic" a few times... and all but one it was correct. It also told me my new estimated time of arrival taking the slow traffic in mind... and sure enough.. it was accurate.

My last two cars have had GPS built into them. However, I'm thinking of actually purchasing this one as I find myself renting cars alot more these days.

I even turned on the bluetooth feature and had a handsfree conversation or two.

Best of all about this unit... I NEVER even looked at the instructions. Granted, I have used a GPS before.. but it's very simple.

Good Job Garmin!

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Love this unit 99.9% of the time. Hate it 0.1% of time ...
I LOVE my Garmin 550. It's reliable, accurate (99.9% of the time), and a pleasure to use. The maps are clear, the voice system announcing the upcoming roads are clear & precise, and it gets me to places quickly and accurately.

I have two small issues with the device.

1) It sometimes takes several minutes to find satellites. Seems like an eternity when you need directions quickly.

2) It isn't always 100% accurate. The Garmin got confused in downtown Seattle and was giving me wrong street directions & information. It also got confused in North Carolina. I had to reboot the unit (turn off, then on) to allow it to find itself.

I also love the feature which allow you to find local stores, places to eat, Starbucks, shops, etc... Very cool.

This technology rocks and it will be a DRY day in Seattle before I'll give up my unit. Well worth the money!

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Garmin in the Best
I recently moved to California and the Garmin has been a great asset. It even tells me when heavy traffic is approaching and gives me an alternate route. The screen is a good size and easy to view in the day and evening. I had to have the text-to-speech, a definate plus! The battery does not last long so I just keep it plugged up. I will need to update the maps but that is the least of my worries because that is to be expected.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * GARMIN STREETPILOT C550 ...
I find this GPS to be user friendly. The graphics are great, and I like to be able to control the volume, as it is on the outside. All facets of the GPS are superb. It's easy to find stores, dining, fuel, etc. I like being able to know about construction areas ahead of time, as well. I have only had 2 addresses that the GPS didn't find, but then again, the competitors weren't able to find it either.

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.

There are but two kinds of people in the world: Those captivated by Baz Luhrmann's heady, postmodernist musical romp Moulin Rouge--and everybody else. Oddly, the film's initial soundtrack release may have been the project's most traditional element, marketing a slate of pop-star contributions that gave listeners a sometimes-skewed perspective on its true musical charms. This follow-up corrects much of that oversight, offering original film versions of "Sparkling Diamonds" (the lavish, Nicole Kidman-performed medley of "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend" and "Material Girl"), Jim Broadbent's and Richard Roxburgh's loopy take on "Like a Virgin," as well as the lively Offenbach "Can Can" parody "The Pitch (Spectacular Spectacular)." It also pays homage to the efforts of composer Craig Armstrong, whose quietly compelling underscore often binds the film's other far-flung musical influences together, be they stately orchestral readings of Elton John's "Your Song," a dramatic arrangement for Kidman and Ewan MacGregor's original film duet of "Come What May," or his dark, melodramatic take on Queen's "The Show Must Go On." The first Moulin Rouge soundtrack collection flaunted the film's bold, cross-genre ambitions; this one chronicles its nakedly emotional heart and soul. --Jerry McCulley

It would be easy to dismiss Kelly Osbourne's musical ambitions based on 1) Her royally obnoxious behavior on the family's MTV reality series, 2) Her overly manufactured debut album, Shut Up, and 3) That voice, which up until now, sounded like cats on a chalkboard. But spare a moment for the bratty singer's follow-up effort, a remarkably faithful new-wave throwback, which generously references everyone from Duran Duran to Missing Persons. Producer Linda Perry not only effectively revives the dramatic sounds and melodies of the era but offers songs that perfectly suit Osbourne's, er, constrained vocal range. The resulting disc is full of guilty pleasures like "Uh Oh" and "Redlight," tunes that should strike a chord with anyone that still gets a thrill out of happening upon basic cable reruns of "Sixteen Candles." --Aidin Vaziri
