0ur opinion:

:
Compact and unobtrusive, the Honeywell HWM255 quietly humidifies a room with an area of up to 350 square feet, providing comfort in very dry environments. Geared to provide up to 3 gallons of daily output, the tank itself holds about 1-1/2 gallons of water. This helps keep the unit size relatively compact so you can conveniently place the HWM255 virtually anywhere in your room. A built-in humidostat advises how much moisture has been emitted. There's also a built-in timer so the machine only works when you need it, great for maximizing comfort and saving energy. Auto Shut 0ff turns the device off when out of water. Honeywell's EZ-Care system makes filling and emptying really simple. The water tank is dishwasher safe for quick and thorough cleaning. Testimonials
Average Buyer Rating: out of 5 stars

Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - * May be a great unit if you wnat to run only for a few hours. ...
The whole tank gets emptied in 6-7 hours in a low setting. This is a very big drawback.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - A wonderful piece of broken junk
We loved our humidifier for the first 2 months, in spite of its flawed humidity sensor and slightly confusing operation. We took great care to maintain and clean the unit EXACTLY as directed, and one day, upon starting the machine, grey, acrid smoke started coming from the vent, and the electronic display went blank. It shorted out with no warning and no abuse on our part. The failure of the electronic component meant the machine was inoperable. It won't turn on at all. We attempted to return it, but were informed that WE had broken the unit. Flawed machine. Great if you like throwing money away.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Honeywell is bad news. ...
I purchased the Honeywell warm-mist humidifier in December 2004. The machine died after 20 days. We only ran it at night and it worked fine until it died. The warranty is for five years. However, it costs $10 for a repair service fee in addition to the cost of shipping it to Massachussetts. After all that I may as well buy another humidifier. This time another brand.

Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - So far so good
Pros -
Quiet. I have it right next to my bed. Other than the occasional blurb (water bubble), it's very quiet.

Remote is useful. No need to get out of bed to turn it on.

No filter to buy. Easy to clean.

Room for Improvement -
The humidity meter is useless. It started at 20%, and kept it at 20%-25% after a whole night on high. The room is only 12 by 12, so it has to be wrong. This also means, my humidifyer will never turn itself off, because I set it to 60%.

I think the meter is measuring what's on the floor level. I have hard wood floor, maybe that's why?

The LCD display is impossible to read when humidifyer is placed on floor. You have to kneel down to read.

First few time, the vapor has a weird smell.

Cons -
It's not really 3 gallons. On high, it'll run for about 5-6 hours only. On low, it'll run for about 10 hours.

Not easy to change water. You have to pull the container out, then flip it over to fill it, and flip it back to put it in. Seniors may not have the strength to do it.

When water run out, it just blinks with the RESET icon. It doesn't shut itself off. And after a couple weeks, I cannot press the RESET button to reset it. I have to unplug / replug the power. It also started a burnt smell, which worries me.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * Works for me ...
Have had this unit for almost 2 years. Love this unit and planning to buy another because I've moved into a bigger place. I've not had any problems with it whatsoever.

Features I like about this unit:
-- the tank lasts a good 7-8 hours at the high level so I turn it on before I go to sleep and don't have to wake up and refill in the middle of the night.
-- almost maintenance free. I only have to wash it once every year (after winter) before storing for the next winter. I've seen another review where more washings may be necessary (probably due to hard water).
-- no filters to use (cool mist humidifiers require this). This is probably a personal preference but I don't like the idea of spending $$ to buy filters.

What I don't like about the unit:
-- humidity gauge is useless/unreliable. At first I tried using the humidity gauge to control the unit's operation but soon I find it to be in accurate. What I do now is let it run till the tank runs out, or use the timer.
-- this unit is extremely quiet, except for the occasional gurgling when the water through the tank.

Both things I don't like about are really minor (to me) or I wouldnt' have kept it. But they are the same reasons I'm giving it 4 instead of 5 stars.

Joshua Logan's 1967 film of the hit Broadway musical about the love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Sir Lancelot (Franco Nero) is strong on star emphasis and weak on such fundamentals as story and sets. Except for a handful of solidly dramatic scenes--such as Guenevere grieving, late in the film, for the ruination she and Lancelot have caused--there's not a lot to get excited about. (The story's theme of a lost, great society, however, certainly struck a chord in the 1960s.) The Lerner-Loewe songs ("If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot") pretty much sell themselves, even if they are, at best, only proficiently performed in this movie. --Tom Keogh

"The book was better" has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. In the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Into this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric chair, masterfully and grippingly staged) on the mile . As with King's book, Darabont takes plenty of time to show us Edgecomb's world before delving into John Coffey's mystery. With Darabont's superior storytelling abilities, his touch for perfect casting, and a leisurely 188-minute running time, his movie brings to life nearly every character and scene from the novel. Darabont even improves the novel's two endings, creating a more emotionally satisfying experience. The running time may try patience, but those who want a story, as opposed to quick-fix entertainment, will be rewarded by this finely tailored tale. --Doug Thomas

On the DVD

Listen to our interview with Frank Darabont.
Anyone who has seen this Oscar-nominated film knows Frank Darabont likes to t-a-k-e h-i-s t-i-m-e. He certainly does the same in filling all three hours of his commentary track which he recorded over several sessions. Darabont has studied other DVDs and purposely does not repeat tidbits covered in the excellent new 90-minute documentary on author Stephen King and the making of the film. Other solid segments are two deleted scenes, a never-used teaser trailer, and Michael Duncan Clarke's screen test. The highlight is two remarkable tests of Tom Hanks in old-age makeup. Both are very credible, but it was decided to use another actor. The outcome is a DVD that puts the "special" back into the special edition. --Doug Thomas

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring. --James McGrath
