Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great ...
I bought this unit about 2 months ago now. I had it installed in my 06' scion tc. And so far it has been great. As far as the audio goes there are a wide range of equilzer options as well as fully adjustable controls for range and levels. I personaly love burning data CDs and this gives me the option to burn 8 gig music dvd with fully navagatable folders for genres and artists. Also it does a great job of controling my alpine type R sub. The video quality is great as well, the picture is very vibrant and crisp, and will play regular dvds as well as anything i've burned so far. Also the E-brake override is very easy, not that i like watching video while driving but its a nice feature for passangers in a coup. Some other cool features is you can actually change the color of the led's in your buttons to either red or green, not quite as versitle as the new pioneer but still a pretty nice option. Also this unit is very customizable for add on features. It's "brain" has a variety of video and audio inputs as well as options for Bluetooth, Ipod, Navigation, TV tuner and the new HD radio coming out. All are a bit pricey but if you shop around you can find a good price, like the navigation on amazon for example is the cheapest around. But all in all a great unit. Only cons so far are that like said in previous post there is no front display when folded in. Also while listening to music the display for what song is playing on my data dvd is somewhat limited. But these are all small gripes and overall i'm very impressed with what this unit has to offer, and being an employee of best buy i do get to see all the latest and greatest in car audio.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Great Stereo for Sound & Navigation
I've owned this stereo for nearly 5 months now and I have yet to be disappointed. I must say that the screen size (7 inches) is huge and the video quality is great! I bought this for my 01 Grand Cherokee because I was really interested in it's Garmin navigation add on. I feel it it has the best navigational features on the market. I never get lost anymore.

This stereo has a lot, (i repeat... A LOT!!!) of features that I have yet to use. I didn't know much about car audio when I bought this thing, so let me warn you... Unless you have superior (top of the line) speakers, this stereo will mainly push high and mid sounds from your speakers (eliminating most of the bass). Be prepared to spend money on a additional amplifier and subwoofer.

I also bought this radio because of it was Sirius Satellite Ready. I subscribe to Sirius and I must say that it does make it a little easier to control the satellite radio. It has many menu options programmed just for Sirius radio. The only drawback is... (this is not the Stereo's fault!) that satellite radio doesn't sound like CD Quality radio, more like internet quality radio. It's not a bad sound, but I wish it could be cleaner and crisper. By the way... you need to buy the Sirius tuner add-on to listen!

The ONLY problem I have with this stereo is the clock... THERE IS NO CLOCK ON WHEN THE SCREEN IS CLOSED! The only way to view the time is to flip up the screen and look at the digital clock. This shouldn't be a problem since you'll probably have the screen up all the time, but it would be nice to have this option. The original clock in my car was on the stock radio, but now that it's gone I'm screwed! (unless i flip up my screen!)

Anyway, I rate this stereo 5/5 because it hasn't done me wrong. Be prepaered to spend a whole day trying to figure out buttons like I did. This stereo is nice and powerful and will impress all your friends! I really suggest adding on the Navigation kit (TRUST ME... you won't be dissapointed). And if you want to get really crazy, go ahead and add on the TV Tuner Kit and the iPod kit. You might as well go all out if you own a powerful system like this!

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great full featured, higher quality, lower budget DVD player ...
For some context:
I recently installed this head unit in my '04 Grand AM. I'm running it with a pair of Polk DB components, Alpine 6x9 rears, a single Alpine Type S 12" sub in a sealed box and a Pioneer GM-7100 amp feeding the sub around 350W RMS. This unit was an upgrade from my '06 model Pioneer DEH-P5800mp.

First let me say that I (as I imagine most people do) did a LOT of research before choosing this head unit. I encourage anyone interested in an in-car DVD screen to get out to a local retailer to view and test as many options as you can. It's one thing to look at all the specs and details in print but an entirely different experience once the device is in front of you. All the features in the world don't mean anything if the controls are counter-intuitive or the LCD is low quality. I'm happy to report that this Kenwood unit met all of my qualifications and expectations both on paper and in reality.

The screen is bright and contrast is sharp. The built in light sensor dims the screen at night and brightens it during the day, making sure you always have a good picture. There are plenty of tilt and depth options to suit pretty much any application. The touch screen menu interface is a nice alternative to some other screens that force you to use dedicated areas of the screen to arrow through all the options to select the one you want.

The only two drawbacks to the 617 are the lack of an external display when the screen is closed and the 2V pre-out voltage, but both are comparable to the features of similarly priced screens (from companies with less history, or lower quality standards than Kenwood) and are easily balanced out by the positive aspects of the unit.

What really drew me to the Kenwood line was the look of the screen. Most other manufacturers surround the LCD with up to an inch of plastic, wasting space and making for an ugly border around an otherwise nice looking display. Kenwood does away with that, filling nearly the entire fold-out portion of the HU with the ample 7in. screen.

The install went smoothly and the connections to the stock wire harness were no more complicated than a standard CD head unit install. Kenwood provides ample wire to locate the unit's external "brain" in the trunk if you choose, or under a seat as I did.

Don't be thrown by the low price, overall this is a great unit for anyone looking to move up to DVD capability.

The Pharos GPS Phone 600e isn't a horrible smart phone, but the lack of navigation software and subpar call quality detracts from its overall appeal. Plus, you can get more for your money with other GPS-enabled smart phones.
