Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * YUCK!! ...
!!SUCKS!! (1) All parts are proprietary. Which means you are at their mercy if you need to buy replacement parts(2) Speaker is built into car lighter module. UGH! (3) AC/DC in home adapter needs car lighter plug to work. UGH! (4) Re-routing is slow. Very slow. (5) Weighs one bazillion pounds! (6) Don't be fooled. This is not a touch screen. It's a "mash your finger really hard into the screen" touch screen. It's technically a "pressure sensing screen". UGH! (7) The software that comes with it is 3 years out of date but not horrid. Just not that good either. Night mode is cool though. But hardly a purchasing merit. It can be updated though. Not sure if you can swap it out for different software (8) Don't like being told something more than once? Well, get used to being a baby all over again. "EVERY TIME" you turn this thing on, you will get a message that says "WARNIING! Do not attempt to configure or input data into GPS while driving!" And there is no turning it off. Hi Lowrance tech, I am your retarded consumer. How can you piss me off today? >!< *<:o( (9) Everything other than the unit seems cheap. Like the lighter parts you see only at road side travel plazas like Pilot and Flying J's. Cheap trucker stuff you wouldn't dare buy. Well, it seems like this unit was boxed with that kind of material! I am getting my money back!

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - Good until they improved it
This is a fairly substantial model thats been around a while. It's heavy and solid, which could be a liability in an accident.

I'm surprised to see people are still choosing this in 2007; although I suppose it might be a good choice to replace a built-in.

I bought mine about two years ago. It arrived with a mis-wired external speaker which I never bothered to return. I handwired in an fm modulator.

The unit seemed to do fair job with navigation until I upgraded the software a few times. After that, it started flipping through map perspectives like crazy (periodically). In fact, the latter version of the software never seemed as intuitive as it was when I first bought it.

Mine finally quit working a few weeks ago and I didn't have the heart to send it back. I can't justify the repair price when Garmin and TomTom are are making smaller units than can also be carried with you. This can help prevent theft or allow you to use them for hiking purposes.

The ideal model should have built in fm modulator, but those are regretably still quite expensive.

It's my first and last Lowrance, I will remember the name.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - * U LIKE IT. U BUY IT. ...
POOR CUST. SUPPORT. TAKE AT LEAST 5MINS TO LOAD THE PROGRAM COMPLETE. THE PRODUCT IS HEAVY.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - Run away from this junk!!!
If you are looking for a GPS that works well for a week, gets shipped back because of an overheating problem, and will require you to stay on perpetual hold with a horrible tech support this is the unit for you. Of course you could choose email support if you like to type without response. I just hope one day to hear from Lowrance. The good thing is the display is large, in just doesn't work if the sun is out. Probably good for winters in Nome.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * iWay 500C perfect for my daughter (just left the nest) ...
My daughter has an even worse sense of direction than I do - which scares the bejeezus out of my wife and I. When she wanted to take her car out of state half way through her Freshman year we were concerned.

We figured a GPS system would help her a) Find her way to school, b) find her way home, and c) Navigate all her driving points in between.

I researched the most popular brands and the iWay 500 was one of the final 3 on my list for consideration. I sat down with my daughter and she indicated she would like the large display offered by the iWay 500 (it's huge! and heavy). We discussed the weight and decided she'd rather have the large display and she'd be leaving it in the car anyway.

So we bought the iWay 500. My wife and I test drove it for a couple weeks before my daughter came home to get her car to set it up and get the feel for the unit. My daughter hates to look at directions, and really doesn't care to 'explore' electronics (unless it's her phone!) so I wanted to see how difficult it was to use.

It was easy! My wife and I tried it out on trips in our area in Virginia (with some trips for 'avoid highways and toll roads' that took us through beautiful farms on our route) and we absolutely got hooked on it.

We have decided that everyone driving in the family is going to get a GPS for Xmas this year!

The size of the display is truly a plus - you just glance down and you can see that 3-D 'aerial' view of your route. It is just amazing with the gas stations, food stops, lakes, parks, etc all labeled and going past on the display.

The unit clips in and out in a second if you want to take it inside.

We didn't hook the 'audio gear' into the stereo system in the cars - the speaker connected to the cigarette power adaptor was plenty of sound to hear the directions the voice was giving us.

This was our first exposure to GPS and we found the amount of 'talking' just right. 'She' didn't talk too much, and she wasn't overly quiet.

Finally, we enjoyed 'ad-libbing' and ignoring 'her' (the iWay's) directions for our own amusement at times - in every case, the trip was re-calculated and the reassuring violet 'path' appeared with the route to our destination recalculated for the path we were now on.

My daughter safely drove hundreds of miles to her college, and is using the iWay to find her way to the parks and recreation areas near her school. Knowing our girl's sense of direction, it gives us a great feeling to have that violet path guiding her to and from her adventures.

We love this device.

Lucario and the Mystery of Mew, the eighth Pokémon movie, ranks as one of the best features in this popular franchise. Director Kunihiko Yuyama and writer Hideki Sonoda sensibly keep the adventures and threats to a scale that's appropriate for the characters. (The first movies put the world at risk, and while Ash Ketchum is a good kid, he's not someone who can credibly save the planet.) Ash, Brock, Max, and May journey to Cameron Palace for a tournament that celebrates the valor of Prince Aaron, who saved the realm from destruction 1,000 years ago. Ash and Pikachu win, but the mischievous Mew kidnaps Pikachu, whom he's befriended. Prince Aaron's Pokémon companion Lucario awakens from the victor's staff to lead Ash and the gang to the Tree of Beginning, a mountain that is also a living entity. Ash risks his life to rescue Pikachu, proving the depth of their friendship to Lucario. The film includes lots of CG effects, most of which work well with the drawn animation: the earlier Pokémon films tended to look like two different movies spliced together.

The two-disc set also includes The Mastermind of Mirage Pokémon: A 10th Anniversary Special. In this 40-minute adventure, Dr. Yung invites Misty and Ash to take part in a special tournament on his new battle system. Yung creates formidable Mirage Pokémon from raw data, culminating in a super-version of Mewtwo, the powerful psychic Pokémon from the first features. Once again, friendship and kindness triumph over greed and arrogance, although the special ends with the words, "To be continued..." A CD is always more compelling when you know it's lifted from the artist's autobiography, and that's certainly the case with Confession, Usher's first record since 2001's 8701. The Atlanta singer's string of hits over the past decade have been decidedly PG-13 rated, almost veering towards teen pop, but he's changed all that on this co-produced offering, which he claims is "the real him." It would be too simplistic to just brand this record a break-up record, chronicling his public split with TLC's Rozonda "Chili" Thomas; it is that, but so much more. It would be more accurate to call this Usher's coming of age record, bridging the gap from boy to man, as he navigates the emotional fallout from the disintegration of his relationship, and the events that led up to it--real or imagined. But other than a guilty conscience, it seems unclear why Usher feels compelled to disgorge his secret life, as he documents his infidelities, transgressions, and emotional perfidy in the album's prodigious twenty one songs, that range from insinuating sultry R&B grooves to the decidedly crunky "Yeah," which pairs an insistent keyboard romp with Lil' Jon's assertive beats, and Ludacris' rather humid rhymes. --Jaan Uhelszki

Fade to Black is a document of Jay-Z’s self-proclaimed final concert; a grand affair that took place before a sold-out crowd at New York’s Madison Square Garden in November 2003. (But anyone who follows celebrity news knows that Jay-Z was out of retirement and back performing at the Garden just a year later.) Fade to Black is a legitimately powerful record of a truly historic event in the annals of rap. Muttering offhand narration with typical bored, streetwise affect, Jay hails the concert as a momentous occasion for being the first time a hip-hop show was allowed to headline at the Garden.

It’s unlikely that the full impact of the live performances will hit home to viewers unfamiliar with Jay-Z and his Roc-A-Fella Records stable of artists. Another frustration is trying to identify the array of visitors who trade raps on Jay’s stage. Included in the star-studded lineup are Missy Elliott, Foxy Brown, Pharell, Ghostface Killah, Beanie Sigel, Memphis Bleek, and R. Kelly. One unmistakable figure--and we do mean figure--is Jay’s squeeze Beyonce, who raises the temperature and the roof with her skimpy outfit, flowing hair, soulful yowl, and sexed-up dance routine that leaves her boyfriend and the whole of Madison Square Garden slack-jawed with animal desire.

Twenty cameras captured the event, and some of the most powerful sequences are sweeping moves across the swirling, blissed-out masses as they lip sync along in perfect unison with Jay-Z’s complex, profane, quick-witted raps. Less effective are intermittent cutaway segments that show the artist in various studio settings working up beats and rhymes. These amateurish home video breaks may give some insight to Jay’s perfectionism and dedication to his craft, but they detract from the visceral power of the beautifully executed performance footage. --Ted Fry

On his third studio effort (and fourth overall), 22-year-old R&B/pop star Usher Raymond makes the not-so-simple transition from post-teen heartthrob to love man. He does it with solid songs and a generous helping of charisma and vocal acumen, making this much-delayed collection a hot summer treat. Usher is aided in his musical efforts by renowned hit-makers like the Neptunes, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis (who deliver soaring ballads like "Can U Help Me"), Jermaine Dupri, and new jack Edmund Clement who penned the irresistible single "U Remind Me." With catchy tracks and emotive vocals, Usher revs up his sex quotient and unleashes a winning blend of street-honed jams and passionate love songs. --Amy Linden
