-- November 13, 2007: We've been big fans of Magellan's Maestro line since it came out in early 2006. The Maestro interface is incredibly easy to use, even for those who are not completely comfortable with electronics. At the same time, Magellan was ahead of the industry with useful innovations like multi-destination routing and pre-loaded reviews for points of interest like hotels and restaurants (from AAA). With it's 3200 and 4200 series, Magellan has improved the Maestro line giving them a SirfStar lll chipset that provides super-fast. satellite lock and making them thinner. ln fact, at .7 inches, these are -- at the time of this writing (November 2007), the thinnest portable GPS navigators available. Distingushing between models is also fairly easy.
3200 and 4200 Family of Navigators Distingushing between models is also fairly easy. The 3200-series navigators feature a 3.5-inch screen, while the 4200s have a 4.3-inch widescreen display. The 3200 and 4200 offer great, basic navigation with turn-by-turn spoken directions, pre-loade maps of the 48 contiguous United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico, and 1.3 million P0ls. The 3210 and 4210 add maps for Canada and Alaska, AAA travel information (see details below) and bump you up to 6 million P0ls. The 3220 and 4220 add maps of Mexico. The top-of-the-line 3250 and 4250 add a host of other features, including text-to-speech directions that give real street names, bluetooth for hands-free phone calls, integrated traffic (with a free 3-month subscription), and voice command.

Buyer's feedback: - * Magellan Maestro 4210 GPS System ...
This is an excellent product. I already have a Garmin 7200 GPS navigation system, and I purchased the Magellan for my son, who was about to drive out to California from Massachusetts. He has made the trip, and he informed me that the GPS worked as advertised. He had no problems finding locations of interest on the trip out. Also, the unit was delivered in what I consider to be a very short time from order to delvery (3 days!). In all, a very good GPS navi system at a terrific price and fantastic delivery.
Buyer's feedback: - asome
this product was use on our trip to Florida and worked great. i would recommed this to all travelers.
Buyer's feedback: - * Here's why the 4210 is great ...
Phew, I'm so glad I didn't listen to the negative customer reviews for the 4210. If you read the item description correctly, you'll see that this system does not have the text to speech capability (the 4250 and other higher end models do), but I'm not willing to pay an extra $70+ to hear the name of the street read aloud. This system has what I wanted: widescreen, thin (0.7"), a lot of Points of Interest (6 million should do), and helpful screen guides (I really like the ETA function). I'm glad I waited for the prices of GPS systems to go down a bit, and I'm very happy with what I got for my money.
Buyer's feedback: - Nice GPS
I've been using various types of GPS units over the last nine years and the Magellan 4210 is my latest model. I first purchased the 3250 but only used it for about a week before switching to the 4210. The major differences between the two are the voice recognition commands, the bluetooth connectivity, and live traffic compatibility. The voice recognition on the 3250 did not work very well as it was very finicky in recognizing any commands. The car had to be as quiet as possible, no radio. The bluetooth feature worked well enough but callers on the other end said calls sounded strange. Traffic is not an issue in my locale so this feature wasn't going to be used. Once I saw the 4210 was on sale locally for less, I made the switch and I'm very satisfied with the 4210. All the features function very well and I don't miss anything from the 3250. The larger screen is a must-have.
I also spent some time with a TomTom XL One recently and prefer the 4210. I like the flow of the menus better and find the Magellan easier to use. I especially like the ability to find a restaurant by type of cuisine, something you can't do with all other GPS units.
Another plus for the 4210 is its size. Very compact and easy to carry around if you don't want to leave it in the car.
I didn't use to be a fan of Magellan products but this unit has swayed me. I've even bought the same model for a gift to a family member.
Buyer's feedback: - * Disappointing!!!!!!!!!! ...
I can't begin to say how disappointed I am with my Magellan purchase. But let me try. After 10 months the plug for the car charger broke. After 45 minutes on the phone with customer service I am now being asked to ship this in to the repair center in Texas. 10 Months and the unit breaks and now I will have to wait 2 weeks for the unit to be returned. I must say that a GPS is a great tool for a driver. But, if you are looking to buy a unit then you should consider looking at TOM TOM or Garmin or any other company that may build a better unit.

The rolling hills of Tennessee farmland, framed in lovely patchwork quilt patterns, set the stage for Dolly Parton's (of Grand Ol' Opry fame) warm childhood memories. The text comes directly from Parton's autobiographical hit country and western song of the same name. Perhaps the grammar is imperfect, but what C&W song ain't rife with grammatical errors--it's part of the vernacular. The story centers on a poor, but happy and loving, family (yes, they do exist) who find clever ways to deal with their poverty. As winter approaches, Mama sews a coat for her daughter from a box of scraps that someone has given her. Of course her classmates make fun of her for having a coat made of rags. But sticks and stones... "And although we had no money / I was rich as I could be / in my coat of many colors / that Mama made for me." That doesn't mean the child's feelings aren't hurt, or that she didn't feel angry. But the message comes through loud and clear (like Parton's voice): the child's mother has provided her with the strength to deal with other children's jeers, and family love can sometimes be enough to pull a person through.
The trend toward interactive video gameswith an emphasis on "active"is a welcome one for parents and kids alike. Play TV Baseball 3 is an updated version of the earlier version of the virtual reality game, with loads of realistic touches that will have baseball fans jumping off the sidelines and into the game. Simply plug the base into your TV or VCR, pick up the wireless bat, and play ball! Play against a friend or choose from one of 12 teams. Rules are the same as regular baseball, whether youre at the plate, on the mound, or in the field: swing away for a home run, lay down a bunt to advance base runners, steal a base, strike out the batter with six different pitches (fastball, curve, screwball, slider, splitter, or change up), or field the ball and choose which base runner to throw outor maybe youll turn a double play! Entertaining music and commentary included. Games need never be called on account of rain again! For 1 to 4 players. Six AA batteries required (not included). --Emilie Coulter
This decade-spanning compilation charts the singer-dancer-actress's transformation from rebellious teenager to sexy diva, along the way check-listing major hits like "Nasty," "Miss You Much," "What Have You Done for Me Lately?" and "Rhythm Nation." Two new tracks bookend the set, but even the older material--most of it helmed by writer-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis--holds up remarkably well. --Courtney Kemp
Why is Janet Jackson's Janet the best Michael Jackson album since Thriller and the best Madonna album since..., well, since ever? Perhaps it's because Michael's kid sister is the only one of these three aerobic video stars with enough smarts to realize that sex, hooks, and beats are all that matter in this field of lightweight dance pop. Or perhaps it's because the sexuality Janet radiates through her sweet melodies and hip-tugging grooves is so much more credible than Michael's arrested prepubescence or Madonna's nothing-personal-just-business comeons. After her embarrassing posture as a sociocultural analyst on 1989's Rhythm Nation 1814, Janet has returned to her strength--using her odd mix of girlishness and maturity to make dance numbers about personal relationships ring exceptionally true. Even so, the 75-minute, 27-track Janet doesn't really work as an album; there's too much filler and the between-song transitions quickly grow tiresome. The album is full of killer singles, though, starting with such proven cuts as the extremely slinky "That's the Way Love Goes" and rock-guitar-driven "If," and featuring such future hits as the Prince-like "This Time," the Motown-like "Because of Love," the breathy ballad "Where Are You Now" and the inspired Stax cover, "What'll I Do. --Geoffrey Himes
Picking up where the breakthrough funk-pop of Control left off, Janet Jackson and her production team of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis laced Rhythm Nation with high-minded references to societal ills--seldom the favored province of dance music, but a daring attempt nonetheless. Songs like "State of the World" and "The Knowledge" follow in the tradition of "free your mind and your ass will follow." Still, aside from the title track, it was the pure pop fare and dance music that stormed the charts: "Escapade," "Love Will Never Do (Without You)," "Alright," and "Come Back to Me" concentrate on the politics of personal relationships, not public policy, while "Black Cat" burns the place down with a fierce burst of hard rock. Rhythm Nation 1814 doesn't necessarily hang together thematically, but it's so chock full of hits, you scarcely notice. --Daniel Durchholz
