Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Really Disappointing ...
I purchased this software for use with my MAP330.
I've used the trusty MAP330 from Arizona to Alaska to Florida and it's been a great traveling companion.
I have a vacation planned to the Caribbean, so I thought I'd load it up with some maps of the area.

Initially the WWBM software wouldn't load on my XP machine, and gave ERROR-15 Can't Load Drivers. I finally shut down every other running program including my anti-virus and it finally got past the error. Fair enough...the instructions do say to close all programs.
Next the program couldn't find the CD even though it was in the drive. I rebooted, and the software now sees the CD and comes up. The first thing it says is that I need version 4 of the firmware in my GPS.
I have version 2.
Ok, so I go to the Magellan site, and look under their support section for discontinued models...and there were no updates available. Nice.
I finally ended up at the yahoo M330 group (those folks are great!) and found advise and files to upgrade to version 4.
So I plugged in my newly updated GPS and fired up the program. It came up and detected my M330, so right away I zoomed my windows screen in on the island of St. Maarten and found myself staring at a beige outline of the island with absolutely NO detail.
No roads. No cities. No topo info.

Just so I'd at least have an outline of the island in the GPS, I ran the upload process. It immediately failed and told me I have an incorrect version of the software.
I gave up at this point.
I'm very annoyed with Magellan for creating this sub standard un-friendly product. In spite of the very dependable M330 unit, I think I will look to a company with better software support for the next GPS.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - Very unprecise, but better than nothing
I bought MapSend Worldwide Basemap to use on my Magellan Map 330 on a trip to Israel. It's an old model of Magellan GPS, and doesn't allow downloading anything but Magellan maps. Unfortunately, Magellan never made a detailed map for Israel, so I thought I'd make do with the base map.

The software works very similarly to MapSend Streets that I got with the GPS, though the interface seems a bit improved. Unfortunately, it only allows a single rectangular map to be uploaded into GPS (unlike the detailed maps from MapSend Streets, it's possible to upload four of those).

As it turned out, the base map for Israel is very poor. Many major roads are missing from the map, and many are off by as much as a mile and a half (two kilometers). At one point we got lost because of it - we turned off at a wrong intersection.

The base map was only useful as a _very_ rough assistance to navigating a paper map.

Interestingly enough, the base map also included topographic notation for heights, and that seemed to be much more precise than the roads.

When I was planning the trip, I had a choice. Either buy MapSend Worldwide Basemap, or buy a cable that would allow me to connect the GPS to my wife's PDA, plus some GPS software for the PDA. I chose the MapSend, and regretted this choice more than once. Live and learn!

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * MY GOD WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY ...
i ordered cause i want to make a trip to south america, so i waited for the cd (with the maps) and what i received was a useless cd, i installed in my pc, and after says that will no work, i installed the patch, and guess?? it didn`t work, so i emailed the tech support, and they said "we have a problem with the security stuff in the cd, we are working on it, when we have fix it, we will send a new cd for you" and guess..... (yes you are right) 1 year and a half passed, and i don`t have the cd..., what a bad tech support.., then pleople say, don`t go to piracy..... don`t waste your money..,

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - Great Products -- Customer Support Stinks!
I am very happy with my Meridian Color and the other mapsend products I have purchased, however, at first I couldnt get this product to work.

I had no problem getting this software to run with XP (even without the patch), however I couldnt view the basemap I had loaded onto my Magellan. I tried to address this with the company. It has been three days now and they have not even returned my emails. Customer service for this product is nonexistant.

I joined the Yahoo message board and got a simple answer to my question in about four hours someone posted the answer. Turns out I just had to go to the Menu -- Card Utilities and maunually select the basemap. I did not know that basemaps dont change automaticaly like the detailed maps do.

I cannt say enough great things about my experience with my magellan meridian color though. Navigating through Hungary like a pro, I didnt miss a single turn. I would never recommend any of their products to someone who isnt willing or doesnt have the aptitude to learn about it. The Magellan Meridian series is in my opinion the finest product on the market for what it does, portability it provides and is 100 percent upgradable with new software and new maps.

Get you head out of your a__ Thales. You have some great products, but you are blowing your customer support base with non existant customer support. I recommend anyone with a question about softward or the GPS join the yahoo groups and post the question there. Dont waste your time with customer support.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Disappointing and overpriced ...
This is an overpriced and disappointing product that is third rate at best. The user interface is cumbersome and inferior to your average shareware product. But this was not the worse of it. Most disappointing is the detail of map details. Tokyo, for example, has virtually no landmarks and one or two roads (this for a city of 11 million people!). This seems to be consistent with other locations in Asia. Even if this product was free and included when the unit was purchased, it would be disappointing. In other words, it's not even worth it if it were free.

I purchased it in December 2005 and it still required a patch to run on Windows XP Service Pack 2, more than a year after it was released.

Consistent with Magellan's misguided restriction on not shipping any products except to a few countries, I had to have this product shipped to a family member in the USA who in turned shipped it to me.

Clearly the "Global" in GPS does not apply to Magellan's approach to service and support.

Magellan makes good hardware and should stick to that rather than trying to overcharge for inept software.

Had I known the software support is so poor for Magellan products, I would have chosen an other GPS manufacturer such as Garmin.

In the realm of revenge thrillers, you'd be hard pressed to find more ultra-violent vengeance and psycho thrills than in the creepy story of Oldboy. This Korean import made a pop splash at the Cannes Film Festival and during its limited theatrical run thanks to the imprimatur of Quentin Tarantino, who raved about it and its visionary director, Chan-wook Park, to anyone who would listen. It's easy to see why QT fell in love with the grindhouse attitude, fast-paced action, violent imagery, and icy-black humor, but it's a disservice to think of Oldboy as another Tarantino homage or knockoff. The darkly existential undercurrent in the themes that Oldboy traces over its life-long narrative arc is much more complex and deeply disturbing than anything of its kind. The movie's tagline is, "15 years of imprisonment... 5 days of vengeance." The imprisonee is Oh Dae-Su, an ordinary Joe who is snatched off a Seoul street corner and locked away in a dank, windowless fleabag hotel room for the aforementioned 15 years. Just as abruptly he is released, and thus the five days begin. Why did this happen to Oh Dae-Su? Ah, but that would be telling, and in fact we don't know ourselves until the final wrenching scenes.

Oldboy breaks into a classic three-act saga, the first of which details the hallucinatory period of imprisonment in which Oh Dae-Su wades from mild insanity to outright psychosis in the hands of unseen yet attentive captors. Act 2 is the revenge, when an entirely different tone takes over and Oh Dae-Su moves with single-minded purpose and clarity. It's this section that has gained the most notoriety, primarily for the claw-hammer dentistry scene, the one-man-army tracking shot, and the wriggling octopus that Oh Dae-Su consumes in a sushi bar (he's been dead so long he simply needs life back inside him in any way possible). In act 3, answers finally start to emerge and the sinister atmosphere grows even more profound--not without a healthy dose of extra bloodletting, of course. Oldboy is an undeniably poetic masterpiece of tension, fury, and dynamic craft. Ultimately, its epic cycle of tragedy is of the sort that mankind has been inflicting upon itself for all time. Some of the images may be gruesome, but all converge into a kind of beauty. It's in the telling of this lurid tale that these details become one and the memories of pain ultimately heal. --Ted Fry

A slightly better movie than you might think, this variation on The Karate Kid finds three youngsters helping out their grandfather in his fight against evil ninja warriors. The real secret weapon here is director Jon Turtletaub, paying some dues on this 1992 family feature; he's since gone on to direct John Travolta in Phenomenon and Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping. --Tom Keogh

Before he made the notorious cult hit Oldboy, South Korean director Chan-wook Park created Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, an equally gruesome yet elegant meditation on revenge. Desperate to get a kidney transplant for his dying sister, a deaf and dumb young man named Ryu (Ha-kyun Shin, Save the Green Planet!) kidnaps the daughter of a wealthy industrialist named Park (Kang-ho Song, Shiri). Despite Ryu's best intentions, things go horribly awry, setting in motion a series of escalating revenges--to describe the plot in more detail would undercut the movie, because much of its power comes from the spare and skillful storytelling. Chan-wook Park is careful to ground the audience in the characters' emotional lives; when the violence begins, the bloody events unfold with the hypnotic power of the revenge tragedies of the Shakespearean era, which had over-the-top plots and littered the stage with bodies, yet were full of rich poetry. Park's eye for startling images and careful editing creates a visual poetry, grotesque yet often haunting. Certainly not a film for everyone--squeamish viewers had best beware, while anyone who wants their violence flagrant and guilt-free will be disappointed--but cinephiles looking to have their hearts squeezed along with their stomachs will enjoy Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. --Bret Fetzer
