Mount Dash GPS RoadMate Magellan

0ur opinion:

:
Magellan is the consumer brand of Thales Navigation, one of the world's leading developers and manufacturers of positioning, navigation, and guidance equipment. Magellan was the brand that introduced the first consumer handheld GPS solution in 1989, and it has maintained its place as a leading global GPS brand for consumers.

:
Keep your Magellan RoadMate GPS navigator securely affixed to your car's dashboard with this sturdy mount. Equipped with an adjustable pivot that lets you fine-tune the angle so you can better see the GPS screen, the mount makes navigating easy and safe. lt's also effortless to install, requiring no drilling, adhesives, or mounting hardware. Simply place it on your dashboard, and the heavily weighted base and slip-free feet will grab hold and not let go. Even better, you can easily transfer the mount between vehicles by simply picking it up and moving it--a notable improvement over most static mounts. Note that the device is designed exclusively for the RoadMate, and will not work with other GPS receivers.

Testimonials

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Perfect ...
This was exactly what we were looking for. It wasn't designed exactly for the product we had but it was easily altered to work with it without any compromise for functionality.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - Magellan RoadMate 300 Owners Take Note
Magellan sells this product as an accessory. From Magellan's site and product description: "Convenient, adjustable mount holds your Magellan RoadMate 300, 500 or 700 series stable and steady."

I live in California, and any type of suction windshield mounts are illegal in the state, so I purchased this dash mount to use with my Magellan RoadMate 300. I find the mount to be very sturdy and stable. Below is the specific issue I have with this product, though.

In the assembly instructions, it mentions attaching the product to the cradle of your GPS unit. The Magellan RoadMate 300 does not come with a cradle. Apparently, the cradles are made for the 500 and 700 series. In effect, the RoadMate 300 must be directly screwed into the swivel ball attachment on the dashboard mount. I was disappointed that Magellan did not mention this fact in either the dash mount's marketing product information or in the dash mount's assemble instructions. I called Magellan tech support to confirm my findings, and they were confirmed. I also confirmed that there is no cradle available for the Magellan RoadMate 300.

So, to use this dash mount, I must screw my unit directly to the mount's swivel attachment. In order to remove the unit from the mount, I need to completely loosen the swivel ball's adjustment knob. Furthermore, since the unit now is attached to the swivel ball attachment, it no longer snuggly fits into my Magellam Roadmate pouch. To use the pouch now, I have to either unscrew (4 screws) the unit from the swivel ball attachment or cut a slip into the pouch to accommodate the size of the swivel ball attachment. Of course, if you never have the need to remove your unit from the dash mount, then this will not be an issue for you. In the area I live, visible GPS units have been stolen from parked vehicles, so I always like to remove my unit from site ans store it in my console when I am not using it (i.e., when my car is parked).

So, if I had a cradle (500, 700 series), I'd give this dash mount a 5-star rating. But, since it does not allow seamless dismounting for the Magellan RoadMate 300, I give it only a 2-star rating...if you own the Magellan RoadMate 300 and are thinking about buying this dash mount, I say, "Buyer Beware."

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Works Great ...
This is a much better alternative to the suction cup mount that came with my GPS. Just place it on your dash and it stays in place perfectly.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Very impressed
I bought this system for 2 reasons. I wanted to use it between 2 cars and I did not trust the suction cup to hold over time. So far I am VERY happy with its performance. It is very easy to move the legs so they conform to 2 very different dash boards. I do not see any reason why it will loose its ability to hold on the dash over time. I very highly recommend this!

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great mount! - Used with Roadmate 760/Subaru Forester ...
I'm 100% satisified with the performance of this dash mount with my Magellan Roadmate 760, installed in a Subaru Forester. It was easy to attach to my GPS (even though I'm all thumbs), and it doesn't slip around on the dashboard at all. It holds the GPS nice and steady, and the viewing angle is super-easy to adjust. The windshield mount that came with the GPS was wiggly, unstable, unreliable, and eventually nonfunctional. In cold weather, it wouldn't keep its suction on the windshield unless I reinforced it with ever-more layers of clear packing tape. Eventually the little locking mechanism broke and there was no suction at all. It really annoyed me to have bought an expensive techno-gadget and have to "mount" it with an unsightly and unreliable wad of tape! I wish I had bought this dash mount right away, instead of struggling with the dinky windshield mount for over a year.

You can say this about D.E.B.S.: director Angela Robinson’s 2005 feature isn’t very good, but it is surprisingly entertaining. The premise, which bears a passing resemblance to any number of previous films (from Heathers and Clueless to Charlie’s Angels and the Austin Powers franchise), involves a secret government agency recruiting young women as spies, based on their smarts, their ability to lie convincingly, and the fact that they look fetching in ultra-miniskirts. Four of the D.E.B.S. are then charged with collaring "criminal mastermind" Lucy Diamond (Jordana Brewster), who has returned to the States after hatching all manner of nefarious plots overseas. Then comes the twist: Diamond is gay, and one of our heroines, Amy Bradshaw (Sara Foster), unexpectedly finds herself falling in love with her. Out goes the espionage element; in comes the love story, and therein lies the surprise, as this burgeoning lesbian relationship is handled with unexpected sympathy, even tenderness. Sure, the acting, even by veteran grownups like Holland Taylor and Michael Clarke Duncan, is almost uniformly lame, and the script is silly; overall, the film would have to put on considerable weight to even be considered frothy. Still, D.E.B.S. isn’t a bad way to kill a couple of hours. DVD bonus features include a making-of featurette and commentary by Robinson and the cast. --Sam Graham

The teaming of Johnny Knoxville (Jackass: The Movie) and Seann William Scott (Dude, Where's My Car?) as well as the presence of the '70s-flavored car chases that were a specialty of the TV series guarantees that The Dukes of Hazzard will be even more lowbrow than the CBS TV series (1979-85) that inspired it. However, this brain-damaging comedy is more "rehash" than "remake," as good ol' Georgiaboys Luke Duke (Knoxville) and his cousin Bo (Scott) are frequently upstaged bythe General Lee, the Confederate-flagged '69 Charger that they drive, jump, race, and fly in as they smuggle moonshine for their Uncle Jesse (Willie Nelson). Meanwhile, cousin Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson) is reliably available to model her short-shorts (aka "Daisy Dukes") and awesome figure (and let's face it, Simpson's talents pretty much begin and end right there), while corrupt honcho Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds, who should know better) recruits a local NASCAR star to advance his wily scheme of converting Hazzard County into a strip mine. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (Super Troopers) manages to mine some good-natured humor from the movie's oval-track detour and a few colorful supporting players (notably Kevin Hefferman as the Duke's pal Sheev). Otherwise, consider yourself warned: The Dukes of Hazzard is shameless Hollywood product at its most forgettable, trafficking in shameless white, rural Southern stereotypes. If you can make itto the end, there's a blooper reel to reward your endurance. --Jeff Shannon

DVD features
Yes, the unrated edition of The Dukes of Hazzard has nudity... but no, it's not of Jessica Simpson, but topless sorority girls. There are also two sets--"PG-13" and "unrated"--of deleted scenes and bloopers. The four minutes of unrated deleted scenes (supplementing the 25 minutes of "PG-13" deleted scenes) include more sorority girls and a menage à trois for Johnny Knoxville . The five minutes of unrated bloopers (the same amount as the "PG-13" bloopers) feature a few more girls but mostly bad language. Featurettes discuss the Daisy Duke short shorts (and show how you can make your own), car stunts, and the making of the movie (narrated by a cast member of the original TV series). --David Horiuchi
