Testimonials
Average Buyer Rating: out of 5 stars

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * Works much better than 2008 & 2006 ...
Previously used 2006 as navigation in my work van and when the gps receiver broke, I decided to upgrade to 2008 Streets & Trips despite the poor reviews here. The 2008 did not work properly and needed to be restarted continually, so I replaced it with 2007, which works great. No problems or complaints since.

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - Streets and Trip-Ups
Bought MS Streets/Trips (with GPS) 2007 expecting it to be a serious product with some degree of reliability. Not! The Pharos 500 GPS receiver will not stay connected to the satellite signal for more that a few minutes, and once it loses it, you have to start over by shutting down the program and re-launching the ap. It's a mess. I've used this in totally wide open areas of Dallas, TX, and there is rarely a time when the satellite signal is found, much less kept connected. Perhaps the most ironic thing about it is the GPS receiver works best when sitting on my 2nd floor window sill, exactly where it's never going to be used! Once it gets into my car, it loses the signal. Buy a different GPS system if you expect to own one that works.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great PC map program ...
I have since upgraded to the 2008 version. This was good enough that upgrading was a no brainer.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - 2007 an Improvement
I'm a long-time user of Streets and 2007 has some subtle improvements, including a full-screen view when using the GPS. The full-screen view has a large button to re-route if you miss a turn (not like anyone tries to use the laptop while driving) and an estimated arrive time. I purchased 2007 since it sounds like the 2008 product activiation can be a nightmare.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - * Had to return it ...
The GPS unit stopped working the first time we tried it so we had to return it for a refund.

One of the most unjustly underrated Italian operas receives a production that should help correct that attitude. Andrea Chenier is based on the true story of a poet who was caught up and destroyed by the blind fury of the French Revolution. Giordano's music captures the acrid flavor of that movement, the cynicism of some of its leaders, and Chenier's integrity and tragic fate. This production's value has probably increased since Plácido Domingo, the leading Chenier of his generation, has dropped the role from his repertoire.

All three principals sing eloquently and with a fine sense of the opera's structure and context. Anna Tomowa-Sintow is in even better voice than Domingo, and Giorgio Zancanaro heads an expert supporting cast. The Covent Garden Chorus, directed with distinction by Michael Hampe, gives a memorable impression of the revolutionary mob. Julius Rudel's conducting is totally idiomatic. --Joe McLellan

It would have been better, of course, if this 1984 production of Donizetti's Anna Bolena, or at least its title role, had been filmed 20 years earlier, when Joan Sutherland's voice was in its spectacular prime. But like her Canadian Opera Norma, dating from 1981, this is a better-late-than-never documentation of one of the most remarkable voices of the 20th century.

Lotfi Mansouri spared no effort or expense in making this production special. He personally directed the staging, and handpicked an outstanding cast (right down to the very young and then-unknown Ben Heppner in the small role of Hervey). The visual elements--sets, costumes, and camera work--are also handled with great care, and Sutherland's positive response to this dedication can be sensed in her performance as the unfortunate wife of King Henry VIII. James Morris is best-known as a Wagnerian singer--perhaps the leading Wotan of our time--but he is equally at home in many of the villainous roles that are the fate of bass- baritones (Iago, Scarpia, Don Giovanni). In this sinister tale of an innocent woman ruthlessly destroyed, he shows a surprising knack for the bel canto style. Judith Forst is also excellent in the role of Jane Seymour. --Joe McLellan
