Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * Definately worth the money ...
I got the Nav730 for my wife as a Christmas present, but I use it just as much as she does. The first unit died after just a few weeks (wouldn't lock on to any satellites anymore), but after exchanging it we've had no problems whatsoever. The text-to-speech was the main selling point, and it works great, but it's a bummer that there's only one voice that supports that feature. The 3.5" screen isn't huge, but it is sufficient. The display is bright and clear, and contrary to what another review said, it will change from day to night colors automatically if you choose that setting. Although it seems to forget some settings like that one if you don't use if for an extended period of time. I've used this unit on in California, Nevada, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, and the maps have been pretty accurate everywhere. I have encountered a few places where it thought roads were open and they weren't, but I can't say how long they had been closed to give an estimate of the date of the mapping software. Customer service and tech support are a little lacking, but take the time to read the digital manual and you should be ok. I haven't had much experience with other units, but this one has done pretty well for us.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - Works, but...
The good news is that if you're in an unfamiliar place, this will get you where you need to go.

The bad news is that the routing is absolutely terrible. There are three modes (Fastest, shortest, "economical"), and all three seem to default to the shortest possible route even when it's illogical to do so. For instance, when driving on the freeway to my house, it tells me to exit the freeway about 2 miles early and take surface streets (including four left turns at stoplights) instead of taking the freeway to the closest off-ramp, which results in a time difference of 3 or 4 minutes in the best case to 10 or so in the worst.

The TMC traffic isn't available in the US at the current time and trying to find out when it might be is futile. So, if that's a major consideration, keep it in mind.

That said, it's handy to have around if you want to find a restaurant or a gas station nearby, and it is much cheaper than other GPS units with Text-to-Speech. So, it's not a total bust, but you're probably better off spending the extra money for a different GPS.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * worth the money ...
i am a college student and i bought this over the winter break. i tried it around DC and VA and it worked fine. i have total confidence in this machine and havent found anything wrong with it. my sister has a garmin nuvi 350 that she bought for $400 and i'm happy to say that my gps does everything her's does for half the money except mine has fewer P.O.I's which only means that i will go maybe an extra two blocks to get to a gas station and that's not so bad. best part is the text-to-speech.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - Meets expectations
The text to speech option is the best of this model. For this price, it has everything that a consumer expects. However, the voice instructions are not very great and are not crystal clear. It would be nice to chose the voice of a desired gender. It announces the distance a bit early which helps some people to prepare for the turn. It doesn't change between the daylight and night modes automatically which may irk some people. What so ever, so far for the money I spent on it $100.00 (thanks giving deal in Fry's), it took me safe and found all the destinations with ease.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Works great ...
I bought this because I wanted a text to speech navigation device that wouldn't break the bank. I also wanted something that spoke the names of streets out loud because I can't safely look at a screen when I'm driving. This fits the bill perfectly. The instructions aren't the greatest, and forget about calling tech support. For example, I couldn't figure out how to get it to repeat the instructions for an upcoming exit. Tech support told me that this feature didn't exist. It does - it's in the 83-page version of the manual on the CD. But it's easy to figure out and program. It's quick. For example, I had to make a left onto a city street and then a right. I knew that I could delay the left. As soon as I cleared the intersection at 30 mph without making the turn, the device told me to take the next left. When I turned off the expressway into a rest area, I wasn't 10 feet from the expressway when it was telling me to go to the end of the rest area and get back on.

This does what I want and does it without a big learning curve.
