Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Audio redorder ...
I am pleased with this product. It is very light and can record without beeping. I especially enjoy the option of downloading the recordings onto a computer so I can save everything I record.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Olympus VN-4100PC Digital Voice Recorder
Great product- excellent recording and playback quality. I love the ability to file into separate folders instead of a long series of recordings that need to be played to get to the desired recording. Also the battery life and recording time are excellent especially considering the compact size and very reasonable cost.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Great Little Gizmo! ...

What a cool recorder! Unbelievably small! About the size of a small cell phone! Like a video recorder it has 4 record modes; XHQ, {the best play back and over eleven hours of recording time, then HQ with about 24 hours of recording time, and then SP, 72 and then LP at 144 hours!!!!!! I guess you'd use this setting on a slow boat to China!

It also has four folders, A,B,C,D. which can hold about 100 separate entries. That means if you are in A folder, and push record and speak for 3 minutes that would be A-1. When you push record again it creates A-2. and so forth and so on. When you want to play back your recordings you can go thru them 1, 2, 3 or click ahead to 10 or 26 or 100!
Also, you can jump or select a different folder from the dedicated button {folder/index} and record and listen to whatever different subject you spoke about in those other three folders with their 100 entry possibilities! I think the entries are limited to amount of time remaining in XHQ to LP.

After playing back in XHQ and HQ, I didn't even try SP or LP because XHQ is so much better than HQ that I would not care for the lower quality play back in SP/LP modes. Also, you must know that in XHQ at over eleven hours of recording time, which is the equivalent of, say, eleven cassette or micro cassette tapes, that that is a WHOLE LOT of PLAYING BACK TIME! Which is about 2.75 hours for each folder or more than eleven straight hours in one folder! OUCH! My poor ears! Just who could handle 24, 72 or 144 hours???

Sound quality is very acceptable to me, though not as good as a larger speaker on even a micro cassette player, but hey I knew that going into this. But it's pretty good and it functions well and I have no trouble understanding what is being played back! I tried it at 16' away, talking at a normal pitch and could understand every word I spoke without straining to listen! But the room was quite and still. Usually a person would just hold it in their hand like any other hand held recorder, right?

This model, the VN 4100PC has software and you can download all of your "tapes" onto a hard drive. Be aware that in XHQ a 2 or 3 minutes record can be 1.5 MB. So one hour might be 45 MB? You'll need a BIG hard drive if your intent it to download your conversation with Goddard! But, you can edit if you have time. Playback with my small Dell speakers on my XP PRO was very impressive from OLYMPUS software wav playback! It Really Sounds Great!

Again... what really caught my eye was just HOW SMALL this puppy is! It must be 3 times smaller than my micro cassette player and I will not hesitate to carry it with me most of the time! But I have no intention of sitting thru hours of recordings on this or my PC. I use it to catch pithy sayings that I utter after enlightening moments of clarity! These are rather small in length, ha ha, so at eleven hours I would have to have a revelation from the mountain top to use all that time up! Very pleased and very good price too!

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - easy to use
a very good product, easy to use, can record with reasonably clearity even in noisy places. I use it for ethnographic interviews and it has helped me a lot... though sometimes it would be better to listen to what you recorded on the computer if the environment in which you recorded interviews were noisy. I also got the wrong product(the VN-4100 one) for the first time, but then it came after I reported the problem. they have different numbers on the top right of the package, the size of package and color of the recorder are all different, I see many people have had the wrong one mailed to them, hope Amazon can distinguish the two better in the future. The only inconvenient part is that the USB is not attached to it, so every time you need to put the records on a PC, you'll need the thing(cord?) that came in the package.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * great product ...
This works great in the classroom, especially since my professors talk way too fast most of the time and i can't get down all the notes i wanted to. This way, i can listen in if i'm confused about something that was talked about weeks ago, and it has a good quality of sound. came perfect, and fast.

On paper, the Mio DigiWalker P550 looks to be an attractive gadget for the mobile professional, combining the capabilities of a PDA and GPS into one device. However, its poor battery life and subpar navigation skills tell a different story.

Though it won't appeal to the masses quite yet, the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet is a nice, portable device for on-the-go Web browsing, and it has some worthy upgrades.

In the realm of revenge thrillers, you'd be hard pressed to find more ultra-violent vengeance and psycho thrills than in the creepy story of Oldboy. This Korean import made a pop splash at the Cannes Film Festival and during its limited theatrical run thanks to the imprimatur of Quentin Tarantino, who raved about it and its visionary director, Chan-wook Park, to anyone who would listen. It's easy to see why QT fell in love with the grindhouse attitude, fast-paced action, violent imagery, and icy-black humor, but it's a disservice to think of Oldboy as another Tarantino homage or knockoff. The darkly existential undercurrent in the themes that Oldboy traces over its life-long narrative arc is much more complex and deeply disturbing than anything of its kind. The movie's tagline is, "15 years of imprisonment... 5 days of vengeance." The imprisonee is Oh Dae-Su, an ordinary Joe who is snatched off a Seoul street corner and locked away in a dank, windowless fleabag hotel room for the aforementioned 15 years. Just as abruptly he is released, and thus the five days begin. Why did this happen to Oh Dae-Su? Ah, but that would be telling, and in fact we don't know ourselves until the final wrenching scenes.

Oldboy breaks into a classic three-act saga, the first of which details the hallucinatory period of imprisonment in which Oh Dae-Su wades from mild insanity to outright psychosis in the hands of unseen yet attentive captors. Act 2 is the revenge, when an entirely different tone takes over and Oh Dae-Su moves with single-minded purpose and clarity. It's this section that has gained the most notoriety, primarily for the claw-hammer dentistry scene, the one-man-army tracking shot, and the wriggling octopus that Oh Dae-Su consumes in a sushi bar (he's been dead so long he simply needs life back inside him in any way possible). In act 3, answers finally start to emerge and the sinister atmosphere grows even more profound--not without a healthy dose of extra bloodletting, of course. Oldboy is an undeniably poetic masterpiece of tension, fury, and dynamic craft. Ultimately, its epic cycle of tragedy is of the sort that mankind has been inflicting upon itself for all time. Some of the images may be gruesome, but all converge into a kind of beauty. It's in the telling of this lurid tale that these details become one and the memories of pain ultimately heal. --Ted Fry

A slightly better movie than you might think, this variation on The Karate Kid finds three youngsters helping out their grandfather in his fight against evil ninja warriors. The real secret weapon here is director Jon Turtletaub, paying some dues on this 1992 family feature; he's since gone on to direct John Travolta in Phenomenon and Sandra Bullock in While You Were Sleeping. --Tom Keogh

Before he made the notorious cult hit Oldboy, South Korean director Chan-wook Park created Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance, an equally gruesome yet elegant meditation on revenge. Desperate to get a kidney transplant for his dying sister, a deaf and dumb young man named Ryu (Ha-kyun Shin, Save the Green Planet!) kidnaps the daughter of a wealthy industrialist named Park (Kang-ho Song, Shiri). Despite Ryu's best intentions, things go horribly awry, setting in motion a series of escalating revenges--to describe the plot in more detail would undercut the movie, because much of its power comes from the spare and skillful storytelling. Chan-wook Park is careful to ground the audience in the characters' emotional lives; when the violence begins, the bloody events unfold with the hypnotic power of the revenge tragedies of the Shakespearean era, which had over-the-top plots and littered the stage with bodies, yet were full of rich poetry. Park's eye for startling images and careful editing creates a visual poetry, grotesque yet often haunting. Certainly not a film for everyone--squeamish viewers had best beware, while anyone who wants their violence flagrant and guilt-free will be disappointed--but cinephiles looking to have their hearts squeezed along with their stomachs will enjoy Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. --Bret Fetzer
