I'm a student and I purchased the voice recorder to use in my class lecture. The lecture room has a constant background noise from the a/c unit and still I can hear the teacher's voice very clearly once I download the file.

The only problem that I see, which I find minor, is that it takes about ten minutes, maybe longer, to download the XHQ file to the computer if its a couple of hours long. So rather than sit and watch the file transfer to my pc, I find another project to do.

I carry this digital voice recorder in my purse everywhere I go. Anytime I run into someone with a crappy "attitude," especially in the service industry, I take it out, turn it on, slap it onto the table and tell them I'm recording the entire thing and ask them "now that I am recording this could you please repeat what you just said?" You have no idea how fast some horrible people change their tone when they know they are being recorded and that anything they say out of line could cost them their jobs. Absolutely love it. Battery life lasts a long time, just use the "hold" switch and it switches into dormant mode.

I bought the VN-4100PC recorder only two weeks ago, and I am now receiving an "ERR" message as a result of performing a simple task such as changing the batteries. I searched various websites for workarounds, and the one I was able to find via the web involves deleting all files in the memory. This defeats the purpose of the recording device. To this effect, it is absolutely useless. Don't buy this product. I'm sure there are better, less expensive products. BUYER BEWARE!

There is a lot to like about this handy little unit.

1). The seperate folders are so useful for organizing data for quick reference. My favorite part.

2). The sound quality is great. You don't have to have the thing right in your mouth to get audible sound. Even things some distance away come across with great clarity.

3). I didn't need any advanced degree to use it. Very simple to operate even with its advanced features.

You get a lot of features and quality for the low price. It's easy to appreciate this little unit and all that it does.

It's not an iPod. Don't record music with it and complain because you expected to hear every little nuance in Britney's new song. If you want that, buy an iPod.

I purchased the recorder to help my 10 year old son practice his spelling words, and free my wife from the weekly spelling tests. He was able to operate the recorder in less than one minute. The sound quality is very good and the size is perfect.
