Good quality for a very reasonable price
I bought it to power my new Sony 10 inch P5 subwoofer. AT 170 watts RMS (mono) it cannot get close to that of the sub's, which is 350 watts. While I cannot turn up the sub to it's loudest and thereby risk shattering my car windows and, worse, my eardrums, I am perfectly happy with it. It provides more than enough power to the sub, stay reasonably cool, efficient and not at all a drag on the small battery of my 98 Civic. I was able to turn the Level dial all the way to the max without any audible distortion.
It is compact enough to install under the passenger seat. I like its sculpted body. The 'crome' top plate panel is sort of unsightly and looks rather cheap. Most would not care much for it anyway, since the amp. would be hidden in most cases. The cool blue LED is a nice touch and shows that the device is working just fine. It has variable low pass (40-120 Hz) and high pass (150-1.5 KHz) filters. I have not tried these filters yet; I use my Sony Xplod head unit's built-in filter. There is also an 18dB bass boost for notes that are at 40Hz. It is very effective, if you are really looking for the extra boost. I had to turn mine off. Low-level line output would let you add a second amp.
Couple of suggested improvements: wish 1) the bass boost were variable and 2) the control dials were bigger and ergonomic. The control dials (the ones you use to change filter or level settings) are too small and can be hard to get to, especially if the amplifier is installed under the passenger seat. I keep a medium size flat head screw driver handy for this purpose.
It is a very good amplifier for anyone looking not for much power but a quality product at a very reasonable price.
