Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Works as advertised ...
I've purchased two of these now. They both work as advertised, shutting down peripheral equipment when the main unit is switched off. Works with computer systems and entertainment systems with no problems.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Better than expected!!
My computer is plugged into the control outlet. When I standby computer all those little power suckers, modem, cordless phone, printer, battery charger, speakers, etc. are turned off. Simple and effective. I don't know if it will ever pay for itself in energy savings, but it already has in good feelings. You need one of these.

Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - * Works fine but not with Directv H20 as controller ...
Works as advertised, nice spacing of outlets, and saves money. The only glitch for me was that my Directv hd receiver (not the DVR version) wouldn't work as the controlling outlet. I guess the power draw of that device is about the same whether its on or off, so no amount of adjustment would work.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Works like a charm!
The Smart Strip is worth every penny! I bought two, one for the TV and components and one for the computer and components. There is little setup involved, only real decision is figuring out which unit to make the switching outlet; in my case it was the TV and computer. When the TV or computer is turned on, the autoswitching turns on the other components. This is the best part of the Smart Strip; simple and easy. These units have worked very well. The Smart Strip can be seen working with the indicator lights of whether the strip is operating and whether the switched outlets are operating. Great product while saving you money!

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - * simplicity ...
This is not your average surge strip, you have one main controlling
plug & when it's turned off all other peripherials are put in slow draw mode plus it has plenty of always on plugs.
I own two & will purchase more.

Joshua Logan's 1967 film of the hit Broadway musical about the love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Sir Lancelot (Franco Nero) is strong on star emphasis and weak on such fundamentals as story and sets. Except for a handful of solidly dramatic scenes--such as Guenevere grieving, late in the film, for the ruination she and Lancelot have caused--there's not a lot to get excited about. (The story's theme of a lost, great society, however, certainly struck a chord in the 1960s.) The Lerner-Loewe songs ("If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot") pretty much sell themselves, even if they are, at best, only proficiently performed in this movie. --Tom Keogh

"The book was better" has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. In the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Into this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric chair, masterfully and grippingly staged) on the mile . As with King's book, Darabont takes plenty of time to show us Edgecomb's world before delving into John Coffey's mystery. With Darabont's superior storytelling abilities, his touch for perfect casting, and a leisurely 188-minute running time, his movie brings to life nearly every character and scene from the novel. Darabont even improves the novel's two endings, creating a more emotionally satisfying experience. The running time may try patience, but those who want a story, as opposed to quick-fix entertainment, will be rewarded by this finely tailored tale. --Doug Thomas

On the DVD

Listen to our interview with Frank Darabont.
Anyone who has seen this Oscar-nominated film knows Frank Darabont likes to t-a-k-e h-i-s t-i-m-e. He certainly does the same in filling all three hours of his commentary track which he recorded over several sessions. Darabont has studied other DVDs and purposely does not repeat tidbits covered in the excellent new 90-minute documentary on author Stephen King and the making of the film. Other solid segments are two deleted scenes, a never-used teaser trailer, and Michael Duncan Clarke's screen test. The highlight is two remarkable tests of Tom Hanks in old-age makeup. Both are very credible, but it was decided to use another actor. The outcome is a DVD that puts the "special" back into the special edition. --Doug Thomas

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring. --James McGrath
