Sony DAV-FX900W DVD Dream System

:
The Sony DAV-FX900W DVD Dream System is a home-theater system with integrated 5 DVD/CD changer, incorporating the latest audio and video technologies, including wireless rear speakers, a five-disc DVD changer, and XM-ready satellite radio connectivity. A 5.1-speaker system, with an automatic speaker setup program and a microphone to assist with proper speaker placement and optimizing sound quality, along with an HDMl output, means that you can quickly convert your living room into a full-fledged digital and high-definition theater in no time.

To go along with its sophisticated, contemporary design, the Sony DAV-FX900W includes an HDMl interface to ensure compatibility with the latest in HD digital television. The system's HDMl output, with 720P/1080i upscaling of DVD Media, reads the data on a standard DVD at 480P and maximizes the video resolution to best fit your HDMl compatible TV. This allows for you to enjoy the best in video performance while delivering digital video and audio over one simple cable.

When it's time to calibrate the system to your room, Sony couldn't have made it easier. The DAV-FX900W features Digital Cinema Auto Calibration, which lets you simply place the included microphone in your listening position while Sony's Digital Signal Processing takes over. Speaker placement, distance, and delays are all adjusted automatically to ensure a worry free listening experience. lt couldn't be any easier than this. And with the system's Multi-Speaker Formation Select feature, you can use the on-screen display to configure the system for different speaker layouts. And best of all, with DlAT wireless rear speakers (with a wired option if you prefer), the DAV-FX900W relies on infrared audio transmission technology to eliminate the need for wires running from the front of the room to the rear.

The receiver features Digital Cinema Sound Technology, Dolby Digital and Dolby Pro Logic ll decoding, dts Decoding and Digital Cinema Sound technology for optimum sound quality. You'll experience a full 1000 watts of power from the receiver (143 watts x 5 speakers plus 285 watts for the subwoofer). The receiver also includes one S-video input, two analog audio inputs, a coaxial audio digital input, one rear component video input, one component video output, two composite video inputs and one composite video output, as well as an HDMl output.

The 5-disc, carousel-style DVD player offers CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 audio playback, as well as DVD/DVD-RW and JPEG video compatibility. The player also features both Precision Cinema Progressive Technology and Progressive Scan ability. With XM Connect-and-Play, the DAV-FX900W is ready to start streaming hundreds of XM satellite radio programs directly to your home. All you need is the optional Connect-and-Play antenna and an XM Radio subscription (both sold separately), and the world of digital radio will be at your fingertips.

If you order a DVD from Europe and want to play it on this SONY unit, you will find that you have wasted your money. SONY is in bed with the distributors and blocks your playing the DVD. This s not a legal block; it's just SONY in collusion with the film folks to diminish the value of your film collection. So be aware.

This is the same as SONY's decision to no longer support Cablecards in its TVs. This is so the cable companies can overcharge you for the scramble box which gives them much of their profit. The government mandated cablecards for the cable companies so the cable companies do support them but then the cable companies got collusive manufacturers like SONY to help the cable companies defeat what they couldn't defeat themselves.

You will be better to work with a more customer friendly company. SONY is not a good choice.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Worth every penny on the price I have paid
I have got this product for 440 + free shipping from Amazon for last thanksgiving. It's still rocking. I would strongly recommend this. Some thing to be considered before you buy:
1)It's just 1080i
2)The receiver+DVD player is heavy
3) Setting up is not too easy
4) Hard to find volume control for sub woofer
5) Disc loading is very confusing until you find the correct rhythm

I've read many of the reviews here and only have to add the following:

1. My wife and I are retards as it took us over 3 hours to build this thing out!!! Sony could have designed the construction intelligently but chose to use sub-standard scews which, well, basically screw you over. Very easy to de-thread the screws and we almost ruined one of the stands as they didn't screw in or out easily...

2. Speaker wires are cheap but at least color coded on one end for ease of set-up.

3. All small pieces, like screws and washers, don't come in one simple bag. Had to look for the second set which had falled out during unpacking (remember,m we're obviously retards!!!) :)

4. Building the speakers is almost moronic, specially the back surround sound ones. Again, design could have been way better...

5. Instructions are poor and not in great order.

On the plus side:

IT SOUNDS GREAT!!! Short of an issue we have with one of the rear speakers (I suspect a wire isn't in all the way, which requires us to open it up again), it all worked well... Very powerful system with geat sound quality.

Actually, we've had many systems and I've built many computers. We're not really morons, just a little challenged when there are many small parts that don't fit all that well...

If you like building things, this should be good for you!

Next time, I'll have someone build it for us and save three hours of valuable time.

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - Loyal SONY Customer
Finally upgraded my SONY SAVA system of 12 years after a lot of research and considering other brands, I am very happy I stayed with SONY. The set up instructions could have been written better, but once you get one speaker done, the rest is easy. Match the color of the cord to the color of the label on back of speaker and you are on your way. Once set up the sound is very good. The wireless rear speakers are awesome. I tested out the system with the movie "U-571" & the house was shaking.... puurrrfeect!

You can spend a lot of money on sound systems, and it was a challenge to find anything this good under $1,000.

Next up is Apple TV for movie downloads.

Sony is a brand that demonstrates solid quality all of the time. The DAV-FX900W kept true to that. The unit as some have said does load and change disks slow but overall this would be the only flaw I've seen. Very nice sound, easy installation and fair amount of customizations. For someone who's looking for a nice unit that's easy to use and offers great sound, this is for you.

It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon
