0ur opinion: :The DVP-NS57P/S DVD player features Precision Cinema Progressive technology, providing sharper images for a better viewing experience. Unlike other DVD players that detect image changes at the Scan line level-Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive (PCP) system detects them at the Pixel level. This results in images closer to the original source data, because separate, optimized algorithms are used to handle the differing Pixel behavior. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. Sony's Precision Drive lll mechanism is also included, which helps maximize the performance of DVD collections by reading data even on some physically 'warped' discs. 0ther benefits include fast/slow playback with sound, and custom parental control.

Easy to use!
What a nice, compact easy to use player! It takes up a lot less room than my old one.
Yes, as some have said, it is a little slow in loading, but it's not that bad. The remote is quite nice! Black lettering on a light gray background is much easier to read than the reverse especially when you are looking for the pause button in a darkened room.
The price makes is all the more worth it.

* Poor quality -- not living up to the Sony brand ...
I purchased this unit at the end of May 2008. My previous DVD player was a cheap Coby, which lasted about 2 years. I decided to pay extra for a name brand, hoping to have many years of trouble-free use. However, 3 months later, the player is no longer working. When I put a DVD in it, it spins and grinds for a few minutes then give up. I tried to contact Sony for warranty service, but I was told that they only cover labor for 3 months and parts for a year. Since I am just outside the 3-month window, I will have to pay $40 plus shipping to have it repaired. I am very disappointed at the quality of this product as well as the warranty term. Sony used to be a great brand, but I am afraid all the outsourcing(and possibly the price pressure of the competition) has forced them to cut corners in design and manufacturing.

Stylish DVD player
For the price you cant go wrong. It produces a very good image and is easy to set up and operate. Very nice looking. It does have one disadvantage....there is no S VHS connection only composite (RCA) and component. Thats why I gave it only 4 stars

* Does the job ...
I bought 2 of them when I read it plays scratched and damaged dvd's since I rent allot of movies from Netflix. The only problem I had was when I want to play a dvd for the beginning it resumes where I left off then I realized I have to select stop first. My only other complaint is that the remote is large but the buttons are small otherwise I would say I'm happy with it.
