0ur opinion:

:
TiVo Series2 DVR records up to 40 hours of entertainment without the hassles of videotape, plus pause, rewind, slow-mo and instant replay live TV. lt works with any TV setup, from a simple antenna to cable, digital cable and satellite. TiVo Series2 DVR connects to your home network (and broadband) so you can enjoy digital music, digital photos, tivo online scheduling and more.

:
TiVo's Series2 DVR delivers plenty of recording capacity in addition to offering entertainment services like digital music, digital photos, remote scheduling, and hassle-free favorites recording. All this and the famed luxury of being able to pause and view instant replays of live television, too.
TiVo DVRs record television programming directly to an onboard digital ATA/lDE hard drive, eliminating the hassles of videotape (imprecise tape searching, head cleaning, steadily degrading picture, fuzzy sound, etc.). This Series2 TiVo, model TDC540040, offers 40 GB storage for up to 40 hours of recording time in TiVo's best-looking chassis yet.

The Series2 has 2 USB ports, offering people with home networks the ability to stream photos and music to their TiVo, or send programs from one TiVo to another. This connectivity also lets TiVo subscribers access exciting entertainment services through the TiVo Home Media Features, which consists of the TiVo Digital Music Player, TiVo Digital Photo Viewer, and Multi-Room Viewing.

The TiVo Digital Music Player lets you enjoy your computer's MP3 collection through your home entertainment sound system. Access and control your entire digital music collection via your TV; shuffle your music library by artist, album, or type of music; and create a custom playlist on your computer or use third-party software to develop playlists for every mood.

The TiVo Digital Photo Viewer accesses digital photos stored on your computer and showcases them on your TV. View photo albums and slideshows on your TV screen, easily navigate, search, and view your computer's entire digital photo library, play and control slideshows of photo albums, and use the remote control to select and view individual photos.

TiVo's Series2 DVR allows users to view photos and listen to music stored on their computer or other peripheral device.

With the Multi-Room Viewing feature, users can pause live TV and resume viewing in another room.

Multi-Room Viewing is designed for households with two Series2 DVRs and allows you to record a show on one DVR and send it to another if your kids are watching in the living room, say, and you're watching in the bedroom. You can also start a program on one DVR and pick up where you left off on your other DVR, as well as access the Now Playing list of a connected Series2 DVR at any time.

You can also find and schedule recordings even when you're away from home. With 0nline Scheduling, you'll have the freedom to schedule programs from anywhere you have a computer with an lnternet connection. Just sign in to TiVo Central 0nline to access the same recording options you have at home.

The Series2 DVR is compatible with virtually every television available. lt also works with VCRs, TV antennas, cable systems, and satellite systems. A patented universal remote control simplifies program recording and controls multiple TiVos within the home (2 devices can share your existing phone line). Connections include: 3 video inputs and outputs (S-video, composite-video, and RF coaxial), 1 set of stereo RCA analog audio inputs, and 2 sets of stereo audio outputs.

TiVo service requires a monthly subscription fee; currently $12.95 per month. 0ther benefits of TiVo service include but are by no means limited to: Season Pass (TiVo automatically finds and records every episode of a series all season long, even if the network schedule changes), WishList (TiVo finds and records programs that feature your favorite actor, director, team, or even topic), Smart Recording (TiVo detects line-up changes for you and suggests programs to match your interests, if desired), and Showcases (exclusive entertainment plus recording shortcuts from some of the most popular networks on TV). You can even train TiVo to autorecord more shows you'll love when you use the Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down buttons on the supplied remote. Parental controls let you lock channels or set ratings limits based on content.

this product is very good, it is ues but good .but i can't reat movie becouse is tivo is allrigted activty

Buyer's feedback: 4 out of 5 stars - A calculated gamble
I read many Web Forum discussions about the TiVo Series 2 DVR. Many experts stated flatly that the machine will not operate without a TiVo contract. I have recorded a few hours of programming with no TiVo service. It is necessary to log in with the sevice to receive the operating system over the phone line; for this there is no charge. I do not recommend this product for the faint of heart. For the technically inclined, the machine will provide a lasting source of amusement at a relatively small investment. The vendor gave excellent service.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Tivo ...
TiVo TCD649080 Series2 80-Hour Dual-Tuner Digital Video Recorder Arrived in good condition.Easy to set up and easy to operate. Now we know what we have been missing over the years. So easy to record or set up recordings.

Buyer's feedback: 3 out of 5 stars - NO TIVO SUBSCRIPTION: NO RECORD CAPABILITY
We purchase a Series2 Tivo when they were first avialable and quite happy with the cababilities and reliability of the unit. We purchased a Series3 Jan 2007 for HD and two channel recording capability, as well as increased hard drive capacity and we're pleased to find it quiet enough for the bedroom.

Tivo, at the time of our purchase, offered (for $199) to transfer the lifetime subscription we had on the Series2 to the new Series3 unit. This offer included the continuation of subscription service on the old unit for one year.

Because the old unit is in our guest room and rarely used now, I intended to allow the subscription service to lapse and record by time and channel. To my surprise, I find now that one year has gone by that, unless I pay a monthly subscription fee, the Series2 Tivo unit is useless. That is because Tivo software now blocks any manner of recording with the Series2 unit.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * I truly love my TiVo! ...
I have had my TiVo unit for almost 4 years now and I don't know what I would do with out. It records all of my shows even while I'm at work. I've considered cancelling and getting the DVR that my cable company offers but I have tried it and Tivo's interaction features are 100% better. You can select and search movies by director, movie title, actor and/or category.

I've already spread the word around my family and they've all ordered Tivo and have been nothing but satisfied.

I also want to mention that the unit I've had for 4 years was purchased refurbished from Tivo directly and have not had any problems besides the occasional glitch where it says it's recording one show but is really recording another (and I believe that has to do with the constant line up changes from my cable company)

If I was to recommend one thing to any random person in the street it would be to buy a Tivo unit and just let the good times roll.

Usually we're fans of Logitech's gaming mice, but its highest-end G9 Laser Mouse is expensive, overly complex, and lacks the ergonomic thought we've come to expect. If you like to brag about dot-per-inch limits, perhaps the G9's 3,200dpi laser will be enough to sell you, but for the price, we expect the design to match.

Small and light enough for a shirt pocket, Samsung's Helix YX-M1 is a one-stop audio entertainment center with an XM radio, a digital music player, and room for 50 hours of tunes, but it comes up short on battery life.

Joshua Logan's 1967 film of the hit Broadway musical about the love triangle between King Arthur (Richard Harris), Guenevere (Vanessa Redgrave), and Sir Lancelot (Franco Nero) is strong on star emphasis and weak on such fundamentals as story and sets. Except for a handful of solidly dramatic scenes--such as Guenevere grieving, late in the film, for the ruination she and Lancelot have caused--there's not a lot to get excited about. (The story's theme of a lost, great society, however, certainly struck a chord in the 1960s.) The Lerner-Loewe songs ("If Ever I Would Leave You," "Camelot") pretty much sell themselves, even if they are, at best, only proficiently performed in this movie. --Tom Keogh

"The book was better" has been the complaint of many a reader since the invention of movies. Frank Darabont's second adaptation of a Stephen King prison drama (The Shawshank Redemption was the first) is a very faithful adaptation of King's serial novel. In the middle of the Depression, Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) runs death row at Cold Mountain Penitentiary. Into this dreary world walks a mammoth prisoner, John Coffey (Michael Duncan) who, very slowly, reveals a special gift that will change the men working and dying (in the electric chair, masterfully and grippingly staged) on the mile . As with King's book, Darabont takes plenty of time to show us Edgecomb's world before delving into John Coffey's mystery. With Darabont's superior storytelling abilities, his touch for perfect casting, and a leisurely 188-minute running time, his movie brings to life nearly every character and scene from the novel. Darabont even improves the novel's two endings, creating a more emotionally satisfying experience. The running time may try patience, but those who want a story, as opposed to quick-fix entertainment, will be rewarded by this finely tailored tale. --Doug Thomas

On the DVD

Listen to our interview with Frank Darabont.
Anyone who has seen this Oscar-nominated film knows Frank Darabont likes to t-a-k-e h-i-s t-i-m-e. He certainly does the same in filling all three hours of his commentary track which he recorded over several sessions. Darabont has studied other DVDs and purposely does not repeat tidbits covered in the excellent new 90-minute documentary on author Stephen King and the making of the film. Other solid segments are two deleted scenes, a never-used teaser trailer, and Michael Duncan Clarke's screen test. The highlight is two remarkable tests of Tom Hanks in old-age makeup. Both are very credible, but it was decided to use another actor. The outcome is a DVD that puts the "special" back into the special edition. --Doug Thomas

When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio (Richard Burton) is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus, a cynical and hardened man, wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. He later becomes convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse received from the robe, which is now in the possession of his escaped slave, Demetrius (Victor Mature), somewhere in the Middle East. He sets out to find Demetrius in order to destroy the robe and the curse and finds faith instead, converting to Christianity. This was the first movie to be filmed in CinemaScope, and won Oscars in 1953 for costume design, art direction, and set decoration. The visual aspects of the film are stunning, and it may be worth viewing for that alone; however, the script and acting leave much to be desired, and you won't find inspiration in these areas if that's what interests you. If, however, you are more interested in this film for its religious matter, the story of the conversion of the hardened Marcellus is inspiring. --James McGrath
