Movie lovers, rejoice! This Toshiba TheaterWide 57H82 television delivers everything you've been dreaming of. DFine high-speed velocity scan modulation improves contrast and overall picture sharpness by changing the speed of the electron beam as it transitions between bright and dark areas of the picture. HD Dynamic Contrast continually analyzes picture information and enhances those parts of the picture with the most detail information, which results in a sharper, deeper, more film-like image. SRS 3D sound field expander system creates a wide 3-dimensional sound field from the television's internal speaker, which enhances sound quality without the addition of external speakers. And with Direct Video lnput Selection inputs can now be directly selected from the remote's numbered keypad without scrolling through all the inputs. Superb performance and comfort - that's what marks this TV.

Buyer's feedback: 2 out of 5 stars - * 3.5 years not long enough ...
After 3.5 years of TV enjoyment our Toshiba 53" just bought the farm. Although, there is power to the set there is no picture. Toshiba has advised other customers the sets guns need replacing every 4 years. I have not had a qualified repair technician investigate the repair but expect the cost will be high not to mention if you have this set built in like we did the cabinet needs to be disassembled first. My next TV will not be made by Toshiba.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - Love It !!
The set arrived on time but was delivered by a company that Eagle had sub-contracted. Getting it to our Family Room was a nightmare as the 2 guys(both elderly)who brought it in had NO idea what they were delivering! We helped but they damaged our walls getting it downstairs.
We LOVE the TV and it's great for DVD's (the sound quality is great). We don't have HDTV available in our area yet but can't wait because that will improve the picture quality. My husband loves the SPLIT SCREEN feature (he can watch 2 ball-games at once)! We like that feature much better than a PIP.
The size is great and easy to roll around and on top has room for DVD, VCR, Cable box, etc.
We shopped for TV's and chose this one because of it's size, price and split screen feature. The only bad thing is: Now, my husband rarely leaves the house!!!

Buyer's feedback: 1 out of 5 stars - * Great picture, Poor product support ...
Recieved our 57H82 Toshiba monitor on approx March 7. Great picture quality! very crisp, clear images. Very good sound quality for a television. Unfortunately the set broke after only 2 hours.

The tuner and convergence modules both went out. Two month later the television is still broken. Numerous calls to Toshiba Product Support has been of little help. Although, they are very polite on the phone, the product support personel have acutually have done very little to fix the problem. When I pressed one supervisor if six weeks (six weeks at the time of the call) to fix a big screen repair was acceptable, he stated that "The television will be fixed as per our warranty. But, our warranty does not specify how long it will take".

Currently:
*The set is still broken.

*One part is still on backorder - they can make new sets but can't get me a replacement part for mine.

*The price has dropped [$$$]since I bought it.

*20% of the warranty has now been used waiting for Toshiba to fix the problem

*I'm missing the basketball playoffs and will probably miss the Championships

Great picture quality, very good sound. But you play Russian roulette if your need product support.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - best quality
I did some homework before I bought this TV and I am very happy with it. The picture is super clear with directv satellite. For this price with such size, I highly recommend it.

Buyer's feedback: 5 out of 5 stars - * Beautiful Picture ...
I purchased the 57H82 about a month ago. I selected it over the Sony 57WS500 because it has a wide top that my DVD/VCR/SAT boxes can sit on, otherwise they were pretty close. We went to many stores to compare the different HD TVs. We really love the picture and are pleased with most channels. I have Dish network but no HD as yet (very expensive). Out of the box the picture wasn't quite as good as I expected; however, the picture kept improving and is very sharp now. It takes 100-300 hours for the CRTs to burn-in. Used the Avia CD and did the 9 point
convergence. Mine has the speaker hiss too (only noticeable at very low volume) but this is a warranty item and I will call Toshiba to come fix it(have to solder a capacitor on the sound card). The sound is very good and we feel no need to buy a separate sound system. Overall, I really loved the stretch mode for watching normal TV. Toshiba really does a great job with this. DVD's look great and even antenna TV is sharp (we live 25 miles from Lexington, KY). Inputs can be labeled and there are plenty of options for connecting your cables. It does not have DVI but it is upgradeable. Overall, we are very pleased and the price was very good.

Update: After owning this HDTV for 3 months, I couldn't be happier. I paid to have an ISF calibration and it was worth every penny. The grayscale, conversion, and focus was off quite a bit (very normal after being shipped) and the great picture has now turned into a beautiful picture that we just love to watch. I also added a Toshiba 3800 progressive scan DVD player from and it improved the DVD playback to another level. Save your money on the extended warranty and get an ISF calibration. It's a measure of the ongoing popularity of Karen and Richard Carpenter that the 2002 release of this video collection in DVD format comes nearly 20 years after Karen's death. The duo's heyday mostly preceded the MTV age, so this 15-song, 55-minute anthology is a bit of a visual hodgepodge, composed of still photos, footage from TV shows and concerts, promo clips, fleeting attempts at conceptual videos, and other weirdness (film of Carpenters albums being pressed on the assembly line? Hey, whatever). You'll see an array of bad haircuts and outfits and a whole lot of lip-syncing, but in the end, it's the music that counts. And the Carpenters' signature sound, with its brilliant arrangements, its lush harmonies, and Karen's exquisite alto voice, was easy-listening pop at its finest. If nothing else, Carpenters: Gold offers another chance to hear that music in all its glory. --Sam Graham

With a gentle tug at the heartstrings, Evelyn tells the true story of an imperfect father whose devotion brought much-needed change to rigid Irish law. It's a labor of love for star and coproducer Pierce Brosnan, who brings just the right touch of Everyman charm to his role as Desmond Doyle, a struggling Dublin tradesman, father of three, and chronic pub-crawler whose wife abandons their family the day after Christmas, 1953. Desmond's a loving father who's boyishly irresponsible; Irish law dictates the removal of his children to stern Catholic orphanages, and his battle for custody is aided by two lawyers (Stephen Rea, Aidan Quinn) who seize this opportunity to revolutionize the courts. With straightforward, unobtrusive style, director Bruce Beresford draws fine performances from Brosnan, Julianna Margulies (as a barmaid who inspires Desmond's sobriety), and especially young Sophie Vavasseur in the title role as Desmond's bright, determined daughter. Sentimental without being saccharine, Evelyn is simple, well made, and bursting with genuine Irish spirit. --Jeff Shannon

Few would accuse Fantasia of a reluctance to abide by the wisdom that what you've got, you should flaunt, and the vocal gusto she slathers over her full-length debut gets partial credit for earning--and keeping--your attention. To a greater extent, though, the high-wattage help heaped over the Idol 3 champ and Patti LaBelle-sound-alike makes the disc dazzle. In addition to pitch-ins from Missy Elliott, who produced and co-wrote three tracks and busts out a two-snaps-up rhyme on "Selfish (I Want U 2 Myself)," Jazze Pha duets on the ultra-mod "Don't Act Right" and Jermaine Dupri wrote and produced the smolderer "Got Me Waiting." Surprisingly, though, it's not those tracks or even the Idol-propelled cover of the Gershwins' "Summertime" that will stick with listeners most. Instead, first single "Truth Is," a sweet, old-school R&B lament directed toward a lost love, and "Baby Mama," a spirited shout-out to hard-working single mothers, snare standout status with their from-the-gut authenticity. Keeping it real is what won Fantasia the hearts of millions on TV, and despite Free Yourself's likable slickness, it convinces that--hot commodity or no--she's not about to forget it. -Tammy La Gorce
